President Mahinda Rajapaksa is reported to have pulled up Irrigation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting over a statement made by him to the media saying that mega development projects would not suffice to win votes.

It is learnt that the President expressed his anger over such remarks by a senior member of the Cabinet and said that Mr. de Silva should not have made such remarks.
However, Mr. de Silva had said his remarks had been misinterpreted.(Kelum Bandara)
