President Mahinda Rajapaksa will declare, on either November 19 or 20, the holing of a snap presidential election, highly placed sources said yesterday.
The proclamation will be issued on one or the other of these days so that the election could be conducted early January, next year.
The political parties, both in the Government and the Opposition, are getting ready for the election at the moment. The government is trying to iron out its differences with its allies and the Opposition it trying to choose a common candidate.(KB)

Although the President has the right to call for a presidential election after 4 years, when he can stay for 6 years, it is his paramount duty to explain to the country why it is absolutely necessary for such an early election, spending such a large sum of our money collected from the people. If not we have to take it as an act done purely for selfish reasons and not for the benefit of the country.

Seriously......the date of the elections should be already set in the constitution. Not decide dates according to the astrologers or convenience to the President (any President). Sri Lanka has a long way to go still......
