President Mahinda Rajapaksa, addressing the UPFA May Day rally in Colombo today, invited the opposition to supporting the government to develop the country and urged them not to oppose everything for the sake of opposing.

“You must think about your country and others more than about yourself.I invite you to join hands and come together. We can overcome any external force with unity. If the country’s reputation, goodwill and the good name is harmed and its economy is mismanaged, we will never be able to achieve our developmental goals. We must forget all differences and get together now. The opposition must not oppose every thing that the government does for the sake of opposing. We must all come together to fulfill the aspirations of the people,” the President said.

President is absolutely correct.All opposition parties should work together with the government to rebuild the nation.they Should not oppose every agenda of the government for the sake of opposing.Similarly the government also should listen to the meaningful and constructive suggestions by the opposition.Tamil leaders should put their pity gains behind and work for rebuilding the nation.No longer should they be allowed to fool the Tamil people for gaining a separate state This is and it won't be possible hypothesis.Switch to English language in education, research and administration.Then you see the development within five years.

People should not oppose anything and everything laid by the Govt. just because they are in the opposition. Of course, the Govt. also should not bring forward unpalatable decisions and expect no opposition. Now that the country is free from LTTE, it is time that all Sri-lankans irrespective of caste,religion and language should unite and bring back the country to a state that will be envied by all other countries. It is a land of paradise with a minimal population compared to many other countries.

Get the best to fill the Key appointments in all development oriented areas, even from the private sector. This will show your concern and commitment. The country cannot develop without the support of the investments coming from private sector, only they can provide productive employment. Opposition did it once in a manner no other opposition in the world has done it. They even supported a useless, senseless budget for the sake of supporting. Weeks later 17 members of the UNP were grabbed by the Government. So what trust can the opposition afford to have on the present day rulers?
