The Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Harsha Sethunga today warned the CID to conduct inquires under the penal code and not to the whims and fancies of officers. The Magistrate also said that CID officers who refuse to agree should be asked to leave.

Referring to an attempt to obtain Attorney General’s advice without arresting an accused who had defrauded money in 2006, the Magistrate remarked that the officer in charge was not at liberty to favor his friends in violation of the penal code and warned that he must not try to mislead the Court.

Hello, Corruption should be eliminated from our society. This is going back the colonial times. When british were running our country and managing our tea industry, those so call do gooders ,(british company directors) were getting commission of one cent a lb of tea sold in the export market. That is called commission. When a poor clerk working in their head office gets Rs.5 from a client, that was classed as a bribe and he was sacked from his job.

In todays political climate the words traitor, patriot and conspirator are much abused. In fact these words have lost there true meaning and the public are immediately apprehensive when anyone uses these words. How can a person who has shed a drop of blood to protect the territorial integrity of this country be called a traitor, and those who are engaged in corruption ,thuggery and oppression of human rights be labeled as patriots??

Judeges should firm in decision not abstracted from any matter

When cases are heard normally the magistrates look into the charges in accordance with the penal code. When they are inundated with cases they usually slams police officers and other prosecutors for non-conformity with their expectation. This does not mean that allegations exposed against few unholy arms deal against SF is irregular. NO NO there are ingredians which are to be exposed little by little as the foreging delas are very complexed things.

We should praise all the judges who stand up for our country

Feel sory for the Chief Magistrate. Pls ask extra troops form Sarath's security.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 10:41 AM

Judges should throw some of these corrupt, inefficient police officers in to jail. May be then they will learn to do their duty. After all, we all are paying taxes through our noses to keep these guys in employment.

In the absence of a regulator (Independant Police Commission), this type of action has to be expected from the Police force. From wat is going on in the country today, it is evidently clear that there is "absolute partiality" from the Police force. I am sure infusing impartiality to Police force will be once of the first tasks of the next President who is sitting in the "executive chair" for the first time on the 27th January. After all, it is a matter of 9 more days. Why not we wait Justice Sethunga?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 11:20 AM

It is a known fact how the CID has been politicised and used for various dirty deals to take revenge from opponents under this corrupt government and no amount of berating by the judges or white washing by blind Chintthana followers can exonerate them. Anyway, wonder why Upul Karu has to drag SF into each and every issue: some phobia, that is, which can be cured after the 26th.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:02 PM

The officers know very well the magistrate wont throw them into jail, they will continue to do this as this is not the first time we hear this and defenetly wont be the last....The CID is bribed here and the scolding is nothing compared to the illegal income, it is the party who lost the money in this instance who is suffering....and cheaters will thrive...IN RECENT MUZAMMILS CASE, IF IT WAS OPPOSSISION WOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED FOR HAVING BLACK MONEY..WIMAL SAID THAT HE WILL USE THIS FOR CAMPAIGNING..HOW COULD HE DO CAMPAINING WITH ILLEGAL BLACK MONEY???? IS THE POLICE & CID BLIND AND DEAF HERE????

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:12 PM

Hi Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Harsha Sethunga, I'm proved about you.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:15 PM

Oh Dear, this is a country where the highest authority in Law offered freedom of movement of people by removing check points while the war was at peak, with a hidden agenda now visible, at the expense of the whole nation. Why only CID officers? Pl bring laws to punish traitors.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:15 PM

From where did this police organization got such power and practice of abusing power unless there is a huge umbrella of the toppest powere that be shading them. Come Jan 26. let's see a new sun on the 27th. dawning on Sri Lanka.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:18 PM

Good one Calistus some people want only their party to rule for evev and ever their so greedy.

No place for other people lets vote for a changed. And send MR home.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:19 PM

Calistus Jayatilleke, I whole heartedly agree with you. Upul Karu is certainly having a SF phobia. By the way where on earth is True Lankan? Afraid to show up, or what ?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:25 PM

CORRUPTION IS PRACTICED AND FOSTERED FROM TOP
THIS MUST CHANGE TO BUILD A BETTER SOCIETY FOR THE FUTURE GENERATION

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:30 PM

feel sorry for the judge... please take care..

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:37 PM

I appreciate the Mount Lavinia court Judge for doing his job according to the rules and the regulation. The Cid officers who try to give false evidence and support the politician should be punished severely.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 12:40 PM

    Calistus,
I had read many of your comments and all make much sense and show a deep thought and intellectual view. Well done to you. You know one thing, there are so many people like Upul Karu, who never wants to change regardless of the truth and reality and takes every single opportunity to prove his attitude by making idiotic comments. For this kind of people MR is the god for ever.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 01:13 PM

Lets not beat about the bush or drag politics

Magistrate & Judges being strict and firm with the police on court matters is another way of enforcing dicipline and educating the police.

Judges standing firm will enable the police to fall in line for a better police tomorrow.
This is the only way to dicipline the senior ranks of the police by holding them accountable so that there will be better supervision...

    Monday, 18 January 2010 01:19 PM

Strange that some think that SF has imported arms through a ". One should know the facts before slinging mud at people.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 01:42 PM

Entire government machinery is politisized and politicians are the bosses of the people. They do not serve the people. You need to obey them and worshp them. Police have no choice. Until the present system is changed by us no any releif could be expected for our burning problems. We have to find a swift solution.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 01:59 PM

The report as I see is about corrupt CID officers. Where do MR or SF come into play?

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:04 PM

Refer to Attorney General! My foot. We all know how many other cases are pending due to flimsy excuses. They are a law unto themselves. Getting a bit educated now though.

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:09 PM

Thanks, Shan, Pandula and Labby. I am really glad that we have many right-thinking Sri Lankans like you all and therefore all is not lost in our paradise island regardless of those unfortunate blind followers who refuse to see the truth. Thank God that all is still not lost!

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:20 PM

In this land of ours none listen and carryout the duties entrusted to them properly.
See what is happening to the orders given by Election Commissioner to the Police to remove cutouts & posters etc
This is a land of lawlessness & arrogance

    Monday, 18 January 2010 02:21 PM

wait and see SF has to come to power to do his own way to
take care our future generation therefore we are waiting until 26th January 2010

    Good Luck
    from Buwa
