The mother of a ten year old girl has been arrested by the police for selling her daughter to an unidentified couple in Kantale last week, the police said.

The police have also arrested another suspect believed to have been involved in the crime, Police Spokesperson SP Prishantha Jayakody told Daily Mirror Online.

He added that investigations have revealed that the child had been dragged away in a white van when she had refused to go with the strangers.

A special police team has been deployed to nab the couple who had purchased the child. (SD)
