Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga told Daily Mirror a short while ago contrary to what Ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Keheliya Rambukwella have said she never asked for pardon for her husband Vijaya Kumaratunga from late President J. R. Jayewardene but only sought legal redress.

“It is a blatant lie on the part of the ministers that I asked for pardon,” she said. (YP)

This is a lie. I remember reading somewhere that JRJ in an interview spoke of this very incident. JRJ had told the reporter, "Politics is a strange thing. When Chandrika came to see me to plead for a pardon for her husband, I never even for a second thought that I was taking to a future executive presidents of Sri Lanka. That is how strange things can be in politics".
I can't recall where I saw this but if somebody can remember better please give us details.

and to be above the law to pardon anybody that he feels to do any hat he wants and each time before and election promising to abolish the executive presidency now there is only one thing for the people to do to totally boycott the next election until a new constitution is drafted and aproved with a parliamentary system of governance a prime minister answerable to parliament.
