Better to be safe than sorry.
Having said that, I honestly don’t understand how our govt can run an airline when even the private sector of other countries have a difficult time because of higher fuel cost.
Instead of maintaining the strategic partnership we had with one of the best managed airlines in the word-Emirates, what did our govt do? Fire the CEO calling him incompetent and a bar owner for refusing to accommodate the VVIP entourage at the expense of all other passengers and started a publically funded, loss making airline since the day one just to boost his ego. Very nice thinking.

Now both SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka are headed by the same CEO who never had any airline experince before! Anyway, he is a nice person and trying hard, but need an experinced person to lead these airlines and get them out of crisis. You cannot do it by trial and error or through wild gueses or mere hope or by relying on whom you guess as capable.

Ground it for good and save money for the country. Too many Airlines, Airports, Harbours, Express-ways, etc for too small a country with a swollen headed pride and too little to back it.

I am surprised that the delay in the departure of an aircraft is given as your top story. Delays in departure for various reasons including mechanical malfunction are numerous. Just check flight status websites at any of the "reputed" airlines. Just yesterday, a BAE aircraft, returned to heathrow after takeoff due to engine trouble & catching fire.
