Controversial Member of Parliament Mervyn Silva who was well know for his anti media stunts including the forceful entry into the state owned Rupavahini was sworn in today as the Deputy Media Minister before President Mahinda Rajapakse.

While taking oaths, the Deputy Minister was seen showing his arm to the President and explaining something which had happened to him and when he was about to sign his official document, the pen on the table failed to write and he had to use his own pen.

Mervyn Silva has been well known for his many attacks against organizations such as Sirasa and the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation where he was taken hostage by the employees when he tried to assault senior staff members.

Some of those who had condemned Mervyn Silva for this attack were then Minister of Media Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena. (Daily Mirror online)

    Friday, 23 April 2010 04:58 PM

The appointemnt shows the brazen display of the authority, knowing very well the antics played at RUPAVAHINI by MS in the recent past.

Srilankans well deserve the gratitude showered on them.

Thank you Mr.President for the thoughtful gesture.

Coming events cast their shadows before.

    Friday, 23 April 2010 05:01 PM

Dear Hon. Minister Dr Mervyn Silva, congratulations on your new appointment! We are confident that you will perform your duties, to the best of your abilities.

    Friday, 23 April 2010 11:54 AM

Guys, there's something positive going on here.... look at it this way ( I may be wrong) but.... I reckon the president is still the minister of media.... hence, he's in a position now to keep a tab on Merv and ensure that there is no disgrace created in his ministry.....MR is a super strategist...

    Friday, 23 April 2010 05:26 PM

By making Dr. de Siva the de facto media minister, the President has sent a strong signal to the media, on how he intends to deal with it.

    Friday, 23 April 2010 11:56 AM

    Friday, 23 April 2010 12:16 PM

First congratulation for the new minister.

Unlike what other comments suggest that this is to be a bad move, what I feel is this is going to be a do or die game for mervin.

Generally 90% of the population may not agree with this and will see this as a some kind of a signal that MR & co given for us to know what is in store for us .

    Friday, 23 April 2010 12:17 PM

God bless sri lanka and save us from misdeeds.

    Friday, 23 April 2010 07:16 PM
