The former Mayor of Colombo Uvais Mohamed Imthiaz is still refusing to vacate the official residence of the Colombo Mayor despite a deadline to do so expiring last month.

Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) special commissioner Omar Kamil, speaking to Daily Mirror online, insisted that the former Mayor should vacate the official residence immediately as the deadline issued to do so expired last month.

However when contacted by Daily Mirror online, Uvais Mohamed Imthiaz said that he had obtained special privileges from President Mahinda Rajapaksa to remain in the official Mayor’s residence despite the deadline to vacate the premises expiring.

Imthiaz had earlier sought three months time to find a new house in order to vacate his former official residence and as a result the new deadline expired on 31 July. However Uvais Mohamed Imthiaz has yet to vacate the house. (Daily Mirror online)

Give him another deadline - if he still stays, tie him to a tree! (Preferably a mango tree.)

    Faqi Tuesday, 10 August 2010 03:20 PM

Send the bailiffs in to bodily throw him out . End of story.

    MaPer Tuesday, 10 August 2010 01:17 PM

Didnt he become Mayor under suspicious circumstances. Now the people who helped him become Myor must help him out of his predicament.

    Rohitha Tuesday, 10 August 2010 10:01 AM

The official residence is much more comfortable than a three wheeler.

    Ranjit Tuesday, 10 August 2010 09:44 AM

First it was the UNP who messed up CMC elections and now MR is doing more damage by not having elections.

yankee doodle went to town riding on a Pony..........................

    suwimal Tuesday, 10 August 2010 08:14 AM

He says the President gave him special priviledge to remain. Whatever he means by that, it seems the only citizen above the law has played his hand in this matter too.

Gayan Samarasekara Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:45 AM

Absolutely dishonest in every sense. It is UNP's fault to trust this guy and the expired politician Cooray blindly. Please be wise in future.

    Sanath R Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:38 AM

This may be due to bad examples. How many ex parlimentarians are yet to vacate their official residences given to them? No wonder the ex Mayor has also has taken a leaf from this experience to stay on. The correct conduct must come from top to bottom, not the other way up. Wonder where the country is heading to.

Saibu Nana Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:32 AM

Now who is the mayor in colombo, because for a quite a long period i am out of srilanka !!!

Nihal Fernando Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:26 AM

Democracy is a system of government through elected representatives by the majority of people. But is it always correct the decision by the majority if the majority are fools to elect another uneducated person to represent them in any high office?

    Yehiya-Doha Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:23 AM

He came from the lower levels of colombo. He knows the real problems of colombo. But he is from minorities & has no education background.

    lankaman Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:17 AM

throw out this shameless and useless joker onto the street along with his belongings and make an example for others

    IrajCalifornia Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:00 AM

UNP and SLFP played games with these type of uneducated fellow ...!!! this highlights pathetic state of politics in Sri Lanka.

    malkanthi Tuesday, 10 August 2010 07:00 AM

He enjoyed a nice tenure without having to work. Obviously he does not want to leave this once in a life times, mega, unexpected appointment and the comforts.
