A 28 year-old man, who had wedged his hand in a meat mincing machine at a Chinese restaurant in Colombo, was rushed to the National Hospital with the machine intact this evening, hospital sources said.

The hospital has sought the assistance of the Colombo Fire Brigade to cut off parts of the machine to save the youth’s hand which has been entrapped in it.

After several hours, doctors and fire brigade officials managed to cut the machine and free the youth’s hand. However, doctors said one finger of the young man had been severely injured and moves were underway to conduct plastic surgery to fix the damaged parts of the finger. Proper Operational systems along with Hazards should be told, prior to starting work. Insurance coverage is also very essential.
