I believe, more than 50 years old Maliban is not doing that type of thing purposly.

Reference to the Maliban 1+ fine
I'm Theja Gunawardena, Manager Quality Assurance - Maliban Milk Products (pvt) Ltd.

Reference to the above comments i would like to clear some facts:
    1. The fine imposed was not to the product and it is merely on the printed outer pack which we have already corrected.

    2. Please note all the milk brands in Sri Lanka has to comply with the Sri Lankan government labeling regulations.

    3. I'm please to confirm all our products are accredited with International Standards of ISO 9002 ( Quality Management System ), ISO 22000 ( Food Safety Management System) and ISO 14000 (Environmental Management System). We are THE ONLY MILK FOOD COMPANY in Sri Lanka has all the above three Quality Certificates for our Milk Products.

If there any clarification, please write to theja@malibanmilk.com

Shan, you don't seem to know what Maliban products are like. I have a friend of mine who orederd milk powder in bulk bags from what Maliban imports for their own packing. They tried to hoodwink my friend by trying to sell him 'fat filled' milk powder, saying its the same product they sell. Vegetable Fat filled milk powder is a cheap substitute used in industries. I have photographs of the product taken at the Maliaban warehouse being loaded onto my friends truck. They are cheats.

    Wac Tuesday, 27 July 2010 03:11 AM

There are many other 1+ milk promoters. They also should be sued.

    Shan Monday, 26 July 2010 06:17 PM

I hope Maliban will issue a press release to clear its name and will turn this to their own advantage. I am sure that the people are already well aware of the standard of Maliban products.

Marketing Eye Monday, 26 July 2010 02:50 PM

Its not 7500 that Maliban is going to loose...its their reputation thats going to get hurt..It can be millions of money, as people start to have a bad impression on their brand name.....

    What more can you expect?

    RIYADH Monday, 26 July 2010 09:54 AM

Maliban do not manufacture milk in any part of the world , they Import milk powder from producers of various or a single country and pack and resell to the market

    thusi Monday, 26 July 2010 09:48 AM

    Only 7500/- ?

    mahinda Monday, 26 July 2010 09:21 AM

    what about the biscuits

    Saradial Monday, 26 July 2010 09:19 AM

But they mislead the public, this kind of adds harm children's health indirectly . Punishment is not enough. Good job Health officers.

Tharaka Chanaka Monday, 26 July 2010 09:11 AM

This company deserves some credit as its the only milk manufacturing factory which donates an amount to save the cows from slaughter.

Muhandiram Imsid Monday, 26 July 2010 08:35 AM

Maliban would have known all along the fine was just a paltry 7500/-. They must be enjoying the fine and will carry on regardless.

    Kithsiri Monday, 26 July 2010 08:29 AM

Our politicians also carried out their election campaigns "saying they have certain qualities". Can somebody please check them and if not, fine them accordingly.

    happzz Monday, 26 July 2010 08:07 AM

so you want Maliban to be fined 50 million and stop there business ? c'mon they haven't sold poison..

    Lasith Monday, 26 July 2010 08:07 AM

Yes 7500 is not enough, but media should publish this. Not only maliban there are other products also doing this kind of wrong advertisements. So we need to inform ppl with media, 7.5k*1000 even not a matter for these business ppl

    Josh Monday, 26 July 2010 08:03 AM

they arrest just one hotel owner... that also in trincomalee when there are 100's of supermarkets around the island selling this??? is this a joke??

    NN Monday, 26 July 2010 07:59 AM

I'm confused..what does a hotel owner who sold the product have to do with the case?

And a fine of 7500? Don't think you can even buy an ad in the papers for that much.

    perera007 Monday, 26 July 2010 07:58 AM

Fined 7500? Do these guys live in the stone age or something? If there was any cause for a fine what possible message could they be sending out by fining Rs.7500?? A 5X2 Press Advertisement would cost more than that!!!
