What the US-sponsored entities masquerading as human rights watchdogs are hypocritically demonstrating is that double standards apply to treatment of massive US atrocities in Iraq which make the Sri Lankan short-comings seem innocuous and largely insignificant. However, the Sri Lankan government should not foment nationalistic uproar in the country's streets in order to detract from burning issues like the huge external debt, record low value of its currency, sky-rocketing living expenses, massive budget deficit and general over-spending on ego-boosting white elephants. It is not for the ordinary Sri Lankans on the street to have to worry about international bullying, but to expect their government to accept accountability and responsibility for the welfare of its people.
