Their should be accountability. The leader shouls accept accountability for losses and quit. Let the party appoint a new leader who is acceptable to majority. Why can't Ranil understand this simple logic ?
Sue Sunday, 14 August 2011 05:07 AM
True, Ranil is the most intelligent politician in the country. But not the type of leader most Sri Lankans are looking for bcoz he does not identify with the true Sri Lankan. Therefore even a puppet leader should be put forward for elections; someone who wear the national costume, shout at the top of his voice and move with the common people. But Ranil should be there giving the required leadership and advice. That's the only way forward for the UNP.

This man Karu betrayed the party before when he crossed over with his 40 thieves. And this man Sajith -well, no use talking about him, you know his fathers record. How can you trust these fellows?
JRJ Sunday, 14 August 2011 12:23 AM
No opposition can win a Election, with the kind of media network that has in the country, which has no spine to say a word against the Ruling Government, but they are trying to be heroes by attacking trustworthy descent persons who has brains to take the Country out of this Hell.

Who are these Provincial Councilors who came to politics after 1970s? Have they come to serve people or to serve themselves?
fazeel Saturday, 13 August 2011 06:19 PM

KJ Saturday, 13 August 2011 03:19 PM
Calistus, I have observed your comments across many topics. You are always critical of whoever who is doing what. Be it MR, RW, KJ or SP. You think you are an authority of everything. Its best you take over the presidency, leader of the opposition, leader of the reformist and be a JACK OF ALL TRADES AND MASTER OF NONE. Its more appropriate to call you a JACKASS
IMTHIYAZ Saturday, 13 August 2011 03:11 PM
like cricket Jayasuriya,Mahela,Sangakkara they lost world cup semis and finals, they given the captaincy to others but politics RANIL IS A KEDARA MAN.He is not a poor man Leader.HE IS A LEADER OF ALL RICH THEY ARE LIVING IN COLOMBO-7.THANK GOD
Fairose Saturday, 13 August 2011 12:23 PM
Calistus, I read all your postings, no matter what is the forum as we are against the Rajapakse regime for its misuse and abuse. With UNP Leadership, I too had the same view as yours some times ago but now I realize "the problem is not with the salesman but with the product", Ranil has become an unsellable product lately because he lacks the oratory that impress the public. He lacks the sex appeal that attracts the opposite sex. It is not a secret anymore that one should have the sex appeal to attract attention from other sex. It was the sex appeal that brought Bill Clinton to power and defeats a powerful opponent like George Bush Sr. the more Ranil opens the mouth the more people go out because he is so boring and soporific. Mahinda Rajapakse on the other hand is good actor and best liar who deceive the most discerning by his magic words. Ranil cannot compete with Mahinda Rajapakse in any election.

S.W.R.D wanted to be the P.M. instantly over other seniors, formed a party, gave false promises, could not rule the full period, his own people killed him, honest Dudley abdicated his throne ( dirty profession ) and died a natural death .Efficient Gamini & Lalith got killed ( i don' t who planned ), before they could reach their goals. J.R.waited till his time comes, served the full period and even more and died after retirement. Premadasa wanted to be in power indefinitely but lost his life. Sajith you are are a junior and there is enough time. for you. Karu,, people like you. learn lessons from them and don't accept leadership conditionally. Ranil say bye to leadership and serve nation so long as people need you.

Provincial Councils are no longer necessary for the common people of SriLanka,
BOORUWA Saturday, 13 August 2011 09:56 AM
Ranil is stuck and the tree is dying
Calistus Jayatilleke Saturday, 13 August 2011 09:31 AM
The solution does not lie in a change of leadership. It could get worse with Karu since he is being used as a cat's paw by Sajith to be a temporary leader as it is easy to wrest it from Karu rather than from Ranil. All these so called "reformists" and their lady hangers-on should instead work towards the victory of the party if they have an iota of love for their party as well as for the country. This is nothing but greed for power and nothing else. We recall how Sajith's father too launched several such schemes to grab the leadership of the UNP and how he ruined the party subsequentlyl
Citizen Saturday, 13 August 2011 08:29 AM
What we can't understanding is Ranil should leave the Party because he cannot win elections, why can others who bark and bicker work for the victory of the Party in elections. What are their contributions during the elections? If they want the Party to do well why can't they all get together and actively work for the Party and ensure its victory. None of these blokes, including the women who are now dancing in the forefront worked for the victory of the Party and instead they only went round the country on their "evil campaign" and this is the biggest contributory factor for the defeat of the Party. For his part, Karu J was in charge of the elections, if all what is said about him is true, why did the Party go from bad to worse? The only remedy if the Party is to do well in future all these "Nariyas and Nariyees" should be thrown out of the Party immediately and give a message to the Party supporters and faithfuls that the Party is now "free of grave diggers"!!!
Imran Hussein Saturday, 13 August 2011 06:25 AM
Sajith doesnt want to give a wrong idea to people that he is aiming for the chair. In spite of Karu's cross over blunder earlier, otherwise he is well accepted by the people. Sajith is making Karu a makeshift leader before talking over the leadership.
It doesnt matter RW/Karu or Sajith UNPers need a good leader and unity among the party and People need a formidable opposition.
acshameed Saturday, 13 August 2011 05:53 AM
ranil please get out
ilango Saturday, 13 August 2011 05:45 AM
why did Karu not seek leadership when he was with the government?
Dumb Sri Lankan Saturday, 13 August 2011 02:50 AM
Why Karu now?. Have they rejected Premadasa?.
Godaya Saturday, 13 August 2011 01:01 AM
Ranil is a great diplomat but NOT a good party leader.
