The maid, who has had 24 nails inserted into her body by her Saudi employer, will undergo a major three hour operation conducted by a specialist surgeon and two anesthetists tomorrow.

Meanwhile the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Kingsley Ranwaka told Daily Mirror online today the bureau has compiled documents including a statement and visuals of the victim to be submitted to the External affairs Ministry and the Saudi Embassy.

“We have compiled documents of the victim and we have translated it into Arabic and we plan to hand it to the ministry and the Saudi embassy tomorrow morning,” he said.

The Specialist Surgeon of the Andapana Government hospital in Kamuburupitiya, Dr. Kamal Weerathunga said that this is the first time a civilian will undergo a surgical operation of this nature.

While this is the first time a surgical operation of this nature will be attended by Dr. Kamal Weerathunga, this is also the first time such an operation will be conducted at the hospital.

Accordingly, an incision of about 15” will be made in order to remove the nails from the maid. Medical examinations confirm the presence of 24 two and half inched long nails, pins and needles in H.P. Aiyawathie’s body. She was subjected to cruelty and tortorue while she served as a domestic maid in Saudi Arabia for five months. (Daily Mirror online)

All the British Newspapers are carrying this story today. Other countries too will pick it up. Now, the Saudi's cannot do much to hide this atrocity. The French and Australian papers too have this news item & TV (News 24) has picked it up. It will be around the world by this evening. I hope they film the operation and post it on youtube; that would be evidence enough to claim compensation and have the perpetrators punished.
