The Sri Lankan maid who was just last week released from hospital after undergoing an operation to remove nails and pins from her body, is back in hospital for a checkup, hospital sources said.

Sources at the Kamburupitiya hospital told Daily Mirror online that L.T Ariyawathi was admitted this evening after she was initially taken to the Matara hospital for a checkup.

In an incident which triggered a storm in Sri Lanka, Ariyawathi had claimed she was tortured by her employer in Saudi Arabia who had inserted 24 nails and pins in her body. She later underwent an operation in Sri Lanka to remove the nails.

The maid was later released from hospital to recover at home but was admitted again today even as Saudi Arabia continued to dispute her claims of being tortured. (Daily Mirror online)

The maid might withdraw her claim because of political pressure?

I wonder how she managed to get through all the sophisticated metal detectors at the air port.

The Saudis will never admit to it. They would never prosecute one of their subjects on the evidence of a Sri Lankan maid whom they despise - a maid has no intrinsic value. Saudis are utter racists. If this was a western woman who made a complaint, by now there would have been results. I am speaking from first hand experience.

Do not call them racist, not only in Saudi, most of the countries treat the westerners differently, that is why their called as No.1, whereas as the Asians are called TCN.(third country nation)

I have seen racism in Sri Lanka thats equally bad as whats outside. The racism due to religion, cast, creed etc is very rampant in our home as well....so dont talk about whats outside. Clean up the filth inside first
