After leading Delhi Daredevils in four of the five IPL editions, Virender Sehwag has sought to step down from the skipper's post and the new captain will be Mahela Jayawardene, who will lead the team in next month's Champions League T20.

According to team mentor, TA Sekar, on their official website, Sehwag had conveyed his wish of being relieved from the captain's duty so that he could "bat more freely". The dashing opener has shone in patches, but was largely a subdued shadow of his destructive self in the fifth edition of IPL.

Delhi Daredevils are placed in Group A of the tournament along with Kolkata Knight Riders, Perth Scorchers, Titans and a qualifier. Their opening match is against 2012 IPL champions, KKR. (NDTV)
