Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ajith P. Perera said today the fresh proscription imposed on the LTTE was a heavy blow against attempts by certain top leaders of the previous regime to acquire the wealth and assets amassed in EU countries by the terrorist organisation.

The minister told a media briefing said the re-imposition of the ban was also a grave blow against those who attempted to revive LTTE activities internationally.

The fresh ban had been imposed through verdict no: 2015/521 issued on March 26. It has proscribed the LTTE as a terrorist organisation in all EU-member countries and has been in response to the case made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the government on why the LTTE should be included in the list of terrorist organisations and be proscribed.
