The Puttalam police, with the help of residents rescued a schoolgirl who was forcibly taken into a jungle by a man for immoral purposes. The girl, a first-year student of Anagarika Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Puttalama was rescued after about an hour.

The person who is alleged to have abducted the child was also arrested by the people. The schoolgirl was in the habit of returning home after school with her brother in a three-wheeler. However, this man had lured the child to go into the jungle in Thiladiya.

People who noticed the child being taken by an unknown person had raised the alarm and alerted the police and together started searching for the little girl. The child's screams led the rescuers to the frightened child.

The miscreant was severely assaulted by the people who found him hiding in the same jungle. (Hiran Priyankara Jayasinghe)

Parents please keep watch and educate your children on the evils of our times. I know that a child needs to be carefree, but better prepare a child for such frightning eventuality. The free availability of Pornography, Narcotics and Medication for erectile dysfunction, causes a sick mind to go nuts.

Murderers and rapists are freed because they are not prosecuted properly nor investigated.rule of law is not applied against innocent and they are punished but all benefits are given to rapists and they go free. No wonder when this is repeated people rise against such politicians and and black coated vultures who politicise them. Very soon people will take law into their arms if this trend continues. The judiciary instead of hiding behind contempt must recognise that open discussions, even to the extent of exposing judgments is the only way for restoring confidence in the system and ensuring fear which comes through respect and not through fear. A deputy solicitor general in these column tried to shamelessly state that these happens all around the world and what was disturbing is the reaction of people. If he cannot do a proper job he should first clear out before issuing distracting statements.

With the result of the Kotakethana case, More crimes will happen in country .Women not safe in our country.Capital punishment should be imposed as soon as possible.

No matter what the crime, the justice system should take the needed steps and give punishment. This article and most of the comments clearly shows how assaulting a perpetrator is the done thing in this country. Where is "innocent until proven guilty" ?This country and its citizens see best to massacre and assault instead of justice. Shame on all of you who are proud of assaulting another human being and then talking about all your Buddhist cultures. Let justice hold its place and not thugs.

It is sad that our nation that once was peaceful based on Buddhism and doing no harm has taken the wrong path.

The best cure for these sex fiends is to de-sex them, make them feel the way women raped feel when they are abused by a male. By doing so, there is no religious back lash, because murder is another crime, but a government regulated de sexing of sexual offenders ends their days as perpetrators of a crime and they will be given just revenge by their inability to do anymore harm to a woman. I find that these sex incidents occur in the northern part of the country. The school girl who was raped by 8 men. Sad. I loved Sri Lanka and always thought it was a great country. Now this!

Saman Kumara was abducted and killed in 1980s, Father Matthew Peiris and his paramour killed respective wife and husband in 1970s or early 80s. There will always be those who belong to the other-side of the society among us.

    Push Tuesday, 02 June 2015 03:09 PM

These people should be given stern punishments.

    garawi Tuesday, 02 June 2015 02:51 PM

Yes,I agree the beating him was the correct thing to do! When the police is lethargic somebody has to teach these cads a lesson. The legal procedures can start after that!I wonder how many girls he must have take to the woods like this!

Tony, that is a million dollar worth question!!! This is what happens, when our monks are busy involved in the dirty politics instead of guiding our people in the religious/humanitarian way.

Chop off something very vital of the offenders.. at least in this, let us set an example to the rest of the world.

INTRODUCE THE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT AND NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO OUR PEOPLE.

    Fassey Tuesday, 02 June 2015 12:17 PM

Narrow escape if not another dead body in thejungle. These merciless creatures should be sentenced to death. Strict laws should be enforced in order to protect innocent children. Over to you Madam Rosie.

    Henry Tuesday, 02 June 2015 11:03 AM

Sri Lanka govt. should damn human rights and bring in the death penalty immediately. Save our children and women, otherwise the people should take appropriate action that fits the crime.

SHOOT OR HANG THIS MAN, THIS TYPE OF PEOPLE ARE A MENACE. THEN OTHER BAD MEN WILL NOT DO THINGS OF THIS KIND..

    Lawry Tuesday, 02 June 2015 09:13 AM

Thank God our people did not act in a lukewarm way. They responded and fast. Our country is still well. The leaders of society and clergy should focus on teaching rather than making political comments for public consumption.

    Shan Tuesday, 02 June 2015 08:04 AM

Thanks to the vigilant people who saved the girl. Why government is waiting without introducing the capital punishment to these misfits in society.

    Malini Tuesday, 02 June 2015 08:04 AM

These sick dogs should be put behind dogs for the rest of their lives. As the previous commenter said, what is happening to our people? They are becoming sick in their minds and doing harm to our children without any conscience.

Its crime but there are two side. This guy need a psychological treatment look his background. I am not supporting obviously need to punish him find out his child hood story too. There guys who are rich and well do people in Colombo keep their own children it can be from any religion. They intimidate children by depriving food and shelter and harass women if these guys are not allowed to do their job. find out bring strict law to punish fathers who intimidate own children. some time they escape because of connections.
