Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) said that they will resort to action against the University Grants Commission (UGC) if the due salaries for May are not paid to the academics.

FUTA President Dr. Ranjith Nirmal Dewasiri told Daily Mirror Online that the UGC has no legal grounds to instruct the Vice Chancellors not to pay the due salaries for May since all the academics have carried out their duties as lecturers. “The academics are not on strike; we have only resigned from the voluntary administrative positions. We have been given appointments as lecturers and our duties entitled for the relevant positions have been carried out,” he added.

Speaking further Dr. Dewasiri stated that the accusations of the UGC are baseless and added that the academics have every right to obtain their pay for the month of May. (Lakna Paranamanna)

They are not on strike. They just have resigned from voluntary positions. If there is any allowance paid for those voluntary services, government can deduct that from their salary.
