A group of Sri Lankans staged a protest outside the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva yesterday calling on UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon to dissolve the three member advisory panel he appointed on Sri Lanka.

Daily Mirror online sources in Geneva who witnessed the protest said that among the handful of Sri Lankans who staged the demonstration outside the Geneva UN office were some Sri Lankan journalists living in exile.

Similar protests against the UN Chief are expected to be held in New York, Britain, Germany, Italy and several other countries, the National Freedom Front had said this week. (Daily Mirror online)

I suppose its a "peaceful protest" . Hope nobody tries a "FAST one"

    upul Thursday, 15 July 2010 05:33 AM

This sort of protest achieves nothing, because it is impersonal. Person to person contact with influential people is what is required. That is what the Tamil Diaspora are doing, to bring people to their own point of view.

If any body wants assylum visa, they won't be in a protest against UN.

    Miles Wednesday, 14 July 2010 08:31 AM

I do not think Lalith Wije's question is relevant, because they went not to seek asylum but as they loved Switzerland for economic reasons - to earn more money (which they can not do in Sri Lanka) and come back to Resplendant Lanka for retirement. That is why they are so keen about lanka's welfare. They are true patriots who are loyal to their motherland

    Indika Wednesday, 14 July 2010 07:58 AM

Yes, I too, don't understand their mentality. Are we suppose to say "Yes" to everything in their agenda ???

lalith wije Wednesday, 14 July 2010 07:41 AM

what is the Swiss govt doing about this? Are there assylum seekers in this lot,if so should not they be questioned as to how they got asylum and on what grounds. Lalith wije

Calistus Jayatilleke Wednesday, 14 July 2010 02:23 AM

These protests are not so effective without the lead comedian Weeerawansa. Why cant the government send him around the world for this purpose?

    mahinda Wednesday, 14 July 2010 04:49 AM

    murali Wednesday, 14 July 2010 04:48 AM

    bigsam Wednesday, 14 July 2010 04:37 AM

Bluff Bluff Wednesday, 14 July 2010 02:53 AM

Wonderful! Now we can send Wimal for a death-un-to fast there and after 2 days a VIP can fly from here to offer him water to stop it. Part II of the comedy.
