In international shipping today a ship is always in communication with shore via satellite communication systems. Every seafarer is paid monthly with salary being debited to the bank account regardless of whether the ship is in port or at sea. The operator seems to be giving lame excuses and looks like he has no means of paying the salaries. If he had planned as he claims he should already have paid the crew by now. The vessel is bareboat chartered by CSCL to the operator and will further complicate the maritime lien. Our thoughts and prayers are with the crew and captain of Lanka Mahapola
