The Tamil Nadu police arrested 23 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees from different parts of the State for allegedly trying to flee to Sri Lanka yesterday.

According to police sources, Sahaya Dhasan of Thoothur village in Kanyakumari district and some fishermen in a mechanised boat spotted the stranded Sri Lankan Tamil refugees mid sea as the boat carrying the refugees developed a technical snag.

The fishermen alerted the police and the refugees were brought to the shore along with the boat and later detained at Nithravilai police station. The Superintendent of Police Rajendaran, marine police personnel and the ‘Q' branch police from the district were conducting an enquiry.

The officials came to know that a sum of Indian Rs.5,000 was collected from these Sri Lankan Tamil refugees to drop them at Sri Lanka border. Moreover one person was reported missing from the boat.

The police had registered a case and were further investigating. (The Hindu)

Thank you Sena for your kind words towards the poor Tamil Sri Lankan refugees. Racists who come on this blog just to blame the Tamils who forced themselves to escape from Sri Lanka and accuse countries who offered second life to these escaed Tamil refugees must read what you wrote few times to see if they have change to digest what you said.

If these are Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, in India, who genuinely desire to return to their homeland, the two countries should implement necessary mechanisms, on a bilateral basis, to enable them to do so in a formal manner. These are people who have suffered enough in their lives. They deserve our sympathy and understandng.

If the people in the boat are Lankans why are they detained for going back home?

Why they play hide and seek ? Some of them petition the chief minister for citizenship, some want money to go to the west and join the Tamil diaspora, others sneak their way back to their land of birth without compromising their refugee status and welfare of both Indian state and centre. They need everyday ferry service to and fro to live in both shores of their haunts, alternatively.

Here the Sri Lankan refugees in India wants to come back to Sri Lanka knowing that their future is safe and sound in Sri Lanka than in India, David Feith who recently wrote an article to Sydney Morning Herald undermining Sri Lanka and propogating LTTE Agenda should read this news.

    Friday, 26 March 2010 08:47 AM

ACTUALLY THEY SHOULD BE SENT BACK TO THERE COUNTRY, SINCE THEY ARE WILLING TO COME+ KNOW MORE WAR- sri lanka

    Friday, 26 March 2010 08:25 AM

Tamil refugees wanting to leave India and return to their motherland Sri Lanka, and also paying for the privilege speaks volumes about the reason why they left in the first place. Most Tamil refugees in the western world say that they left Sri Lanka because of the atrocities carried out by the Sri Lankan Army, however the Sri Lankan Army still remains and only the LTTE has been wiped-out. So, deducing the truth from this situation shows that it was actually the LTTE that these Tamil refugees were running from and NOT the SL Army. Otherwise why return?

    Friday, 26 March 2010 08:25 AM

If you want to come back, come the proper way.

    Friday, 26 March 2010 07:59 AM

India please keep them with you for ever.

    Friday, 26 March 2010 07:51 AM

Where the all LTTE supporters who are always trying to criricised SL for refugee matter.

    Friday, 26 March 2010 07:46 AM

This proves the reason for them to leave was the LTTE and not the army. We welcome them back to their country of birth. This should be headline news in foreign press for the knowledge of Tamil diaspora. Will our missions abroad do this?

    Friday, 26 March 2010 07:26 AM

Let them come to their motherland & live happily! all these time they struggled due to war.
