A Sri Lankan maid on trial for culpable homicide told a psychiatrist that she killed her lover in self-defence as he had threatened her as well as her employer's two children.

Puwaneswary Tharmalingam, 33, also claimed that Mr Murugaiyan Selvam, 32, an Indian national who worked here as a project supervisor, had exploited her sexually and financially.

On Day Four of her trial in the High Court on Tuesday, the court heard from two other Indian nationals that they had sex with the maid in October 2009.

One of them bought her a SIM card for her cellphone. She had also told them how she was cheated by her lover, who had promised to marry her. (Source: Straits Times)

this is what most of our housemaids do in the middle east. unwanted relationships and trouble. a lot of housemaids running away from the workplace and living with men of other nationalities and later claims to be mistreated by the sponsors. our embassies can confirm this to anyone.

Once again the South Asian male's double standard towards women is showing. Let's not judge this poor woman for attempting to go overseas and better herself. Think again she is somebody's mother or sister !The difference between her and the rest of the expatriates is just a difference of degree.
