The Sri Lankan government says it will not submit to international pressure especially coming from countries “disappointed” over the end of the war in Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister D.M Jayaratna, speaking at an army passing out ceremony in Diyatalawa today, noted that while Sri Lanka managed to end the war with the LTTE several other countries are still struggling to eradicate terrorism.

He claimed that the countries which are still struggling with war in their hands are ashamed at what Sri Lanka was able to achieve and are now attempting to find fault with the government.

The Premier also noted that although the war in Sri Lanka was dragging for several years attempts by the international community to form commissions against the country is being brought up only now.  (Daily Mirror online)

Life will be very difficult but now take this as an opportunity and correct our policies. We must be a high tech country and do not take aid, do not privatize to appease the IMF eliminate corruption. If you do these they will enstrangle you.

Main aim behind this is to force the normal man to vote opposition by make life difficult in MR's legislature term.

it is easy to give verbal promise and later to flip flop that promise. Broken promises are common in Sri Lanka. Promisses are not solution. It is simply a trick to pass time.

Yeah! What a load of nonsense. This false patriotism is getting on my nerves! If you were for real, you would want to clear our name and start on a clean slate. Instead you are just a mouthpiece.

UN wanted to investigate alleged war crime. But these politicians are giving voluntary confession for war crime including the president & his loving brother who is a defence secretary.

We as a nation has the right to hang anyone if they betray our nation. We will shut the mouth of the media as and when we feel like it. We have oil,we grow wheat and we make cars and planes. We don't depend on anbody. Our students have no need to go overseas to do their doctorates. We have home grown solution for everything. Our leaders are the best in the whole world. As our ledaers say, we will not submit to anybody. We don't care about all the high resolution sattelite pictures that were taken in Vanni. We will leave the UN and we will leave any institution that comes against us.

Politicians are digging grave yard for Sri Lankans. Ultimately we are the one who is going to suffer by their decisions. Whatever happens politicians will continuously enjoy a lavish life (+family air lines-Mihin) at our tax money. I guess soon we are going to an Ethiopia in Sri Lanka.

    Dammalage Thursday, 24 June 2010 04:40 PM

As an independen country, we should not bow down to EU conditions.Who are they? Ask us to do this and that.We can manage with or without such people.I am very proud to have such politicians who are not ready to obey for such demands.
They should not worry about GSP Plus tariff concession but most of the people in Sri Lanka is behind the President.

We sound just like Israelis. And we have the gall to criticize Israel. What a bunch of knaves.

    paul Thursday, 24 June 2010 05:08 PM

"we don't depend on anybody"...eh? SL is totally dependant on foreign aid, on foreign tourists, on foreign countries employing it's workers and foreign buyers for it's exports.

This panel is not about winning the war and eradicated terrorism in our country ( MR's panel may be like that) but this is UN panel is to investicate WAR crimes, if we object this very harshly , then we are automatically gulity!

    lankanlion Thursday, 24 June 2010 02:51 PM

Hi prime minister, Aren’t you promoting a stupid concept which is detrimental to Sri Lankans? Our country name has already gone to the bad book and considered as terror country. We wouldn’t be getting any assistance from the rest of world. Most likely western world will influence India and forced them to stop their support to Sri Lanka. Then we will be left out with no support. Can we live in an Island? Aren’t we did a stupid thing by electing rowdies and area thugs as our leaders?

    Aj Thursday, 24 June 2010 07:05 PM

If we don’t have anything to hide then why don’t we allow the UN to investigate? Eventually, the truth will come-out.

QUOTE - " large percentage of aid comes from US, Europe".
That was many moons ago ...now very little - basically none !! - from these nations.
Aid to Sri Lanka in Billions of $$$...From China, Japan, Iran & Libya..
QUOTE - "'white jokers' helped... SL in weakening the LTTE by proscribing them..., freezing their assets, supplying weapons and training to the Army, etc."
Only towards the end...when it was obvious that Sri Lanka would defeat Terrorism.
    QUOTE - " supplying weapons "
Weapons were from - China, Pakistan , Isreal, Russia....basically none from USA, UK, EU.

    R.Dias Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:34 PM

2007-2009 The funds for development projects were not given by the donors due to the War with the LTTE and the Govt drummed up the Racist feelings of the masses and requsted to be patriotic and tighten their belts till the end of the War.
2010 - ??? - The Donor Countries have set conditions to the Govt to follow to qualify for development assistance. Now again the Govt is drumming up the Patriotic feelings by shouting about the degredtion of the Soverignity of the Country and requesting people to Tighten up the belts.

    ajith Thursday, 24 June 2010 11:22 AM

You are right. The funniest thing is why the opposition is silent when the outside world is bullying us.I am fed up with UNP and JVP.

    anura Thursday, 24 June 2010 11:27 AM

GOSL, do not bow down to international pressure. We are right behind you.Do not allow these white jokers to meddle in our internal affairs.

    Sanath R Thursday, 24 June 2010 11:27 AM

In fact there was a press release from UNP opposing the UN effort in formulating the advisory commitee. Perhaps Ajith may have not seen it.

local boy Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:01 PM

I thought they have stopped new army recruits ?

    Fairose Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:08 PM

We eradicated the terrorism just because they are tamils. Had it been sinhalese, they wouldn't have bombed or shelled in that magnitude for the fear of collateral damages. Western countries give the highest priority for Freedom of Speech and Human right, they cannot end terrorism the way how we ended therefore, stop boasting and think of the human losses incurred during this course of war and take appropriate actions to give the due place for the minorities.

    raj Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:08 PM

what is the main reason for being not happy with UN's panel? Is that the UN panel is going to expose the crime committed against humnity? Answer to this question tells a lot.

    Kavitha Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:15 PM

Yes Correct.. Don't be begging from White jokers also..

    R.Dias Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:18 PM

My Dear Country men - I suggest that you tighten your belts for the next 6 years like these soldiers as no one wants to lend us any money.

    Menaka Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:30 PM

    Hats up to our PM

    Dheen Thursday, 24 June 2010 11:12 AM

It is great if you keep up to your word without running around begging.

    Anura Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:44 PM

this is not the problem about terrorism eradication , this is about WAR CRIME Sir!

    gundagunda Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:46 PM

Sri Lankan politicians are coming with their own versions to oppose UN steps. However if the Govt had committed human rights violations there is no way out. This is only a precursar to war crimes trial. If you are not guilty why worry?

    lankanlion Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:46 PM

We are succeessfully progressing towards stone age...Outcome for electing wrong leadership and si lankans has to pay a heavy price over next few decades

    R.Dias Thursday, 24 June 2010 01:53 PM

AS A COUNTRY WE ARE FINISHED AND THE ISOLATION BY THE WEST WILL HAVE UNTOLD MISERIES ON THE POOR MASSES.

    Samarakone Thursday, 24 June 2010 02:04 PM

Well Anura you are just the right type of 'Cardboard Sando' the government is looking to cheer them on. Do you know that this country is surviving (including providing for Sando's like you) on the loans and aid provided by the 'White Jokers' as you call them. large percentage of aid comes from US, Europe. Also do not forget the 'white jokers' helped govt of SL in weakening the LTTE by proscribing them in their countries, freezing their assets, supplying weapons and training to the Army, etc. Don't forget that Sri Lanka's BEST FRIEND NOW, INDIA WAS THE ONE WHO GAVE LIFE TO THE LTTE. We so called 'PATRIOTS' forget these so soon. Well lets hope when the aid stops and GSP stops Sri Lanka's Best Friend INDIA will once again 'airdrop' food as they once did in the north defying SL Govt..

    dagobert Thursday, 24 June 2010 02:11 PM

UNP oppose UN panel and dumbfoundedly say YES to GPS+ conditions.

Leave politics apart stand up for the Country and her people.
Alas, this is how the power greedy opposition work towards the intererst of the masses and the country and expect the masses to vote them in to power.

Party politics is throttling the Country.

    freedomforall Thursday, 24 June 2010 02:15 PM

your comments are racist! In fact, 2/3rd of the members of the panel are not even "white"

    Shantha Thursday, 24 June 2010 02:26 PM

So what is their backup plan? If the GSP is withdrawn thousands of jobs and industries will close down.
