The government today slammed US Assistant Secretary for South Asia and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake stating he has no right to dictate to Sri Lanka on how democracy must be protected or make comments on the 17th Amendment as it is entirely a domestic matter of this country.
Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told journalists this afternoon that Mr. Blake who was also the former US Ambassador to Sri Lanka was purely an outsider who had no right to talk about the internal matters of the country. (SAJ)

If we do not heed to local call to implement our own constitution, fully, we are leaving room for every Tom, Dick and Harry to dictate. This is the reality.

There is nothing wrong in Blakes advice only dishonest could disregard it, 17th amendment is good for general public, bad for rogue politicians.

Diplomacy has never been the strong-point of this government! ... But, it is the people who elect the government, so maybe they have got the government that they deserve.
Nilanse Thursday, 22 July 2010 08:29 PM
Maybe because they are cowards? I don't know ... They always use the media to say one thing, but at the meeting, in person, they show another face, with a BIG smile!

Why didn't you (and the government you represent) say it to Blake's face, instead of issuing press statements after he has left the country?
TomSamUSA Thursday, 22 July 2010 04:44 PM
Keep printing more bonds to cover the cost of the junkets and tamashas of sinking Lanka!

NO one can teach us. We know every thing, what is good and bad. No one can comment on us. No one can make observation on us. We are a great nation thanks to our dear politicians.
