The government has received a confidential report regarding the possible LTTE buildup in Venezuela and the External Affairs Ministry is studying the report at the moment, External Affairs Ministry sources told Daily Mirror online.
Earlier it was reported that the Sri Lankan envoy for Cuba Tamara Kuliyanayagam had visited neighboring Venezuela to discuss matters with the Venezuelan government officials and report back to the Sri Lankan government.
The latest development in Venezuela comes following the creation of a Transnational Government of Tamil Eelaam (TGTE) in several European countries and elsewhere.
The controversial TGTE held its inaugural sessions in the city of Philadelphia from May 17-19 in the US, where the LTTE is listed as a terrorist outfit.
The meeting comes in the wake of the Sri Lankan government urging foreign governments not to give credence to moves by the LTTE to create a government in exile in support of an Eelam state. (Daily Mirror online)

The problem is that these so called friends are not really of any use to SL. I won't be surprised if Iran finances an Islamic terror organisation in our country. We should not really be alarmed at these acts of the eelamists, as they have to be seen doing something in order for the flow of money to continue....this is their full time job.

The situation with International affairs is that only money talks. It sways to the party that has the funds. If S/L is not buying any products from Venezuela, then S/L is of no importance to them.

EELAM WILL NEVER BE A REALITY. THEY TRIED IN TAMIL NADU. THEY TRIED IN SRI LANKA. THEY TRIED IN MALAYSIA/SINGAPORE. ALL FAILED ATTEMPTS. NOW THEY ARE IN SOUTH AMERICA. ALL THE BEST!!!!!!!!. BE CAREFUL CHAVEZ.......

well said. who would want to waste their lives and loose it eventually for no reason if they are getting everything they can afford, and above all a fair and peace place to live and bring up family.

The roots have spread everywhere, Sri Lanka has only managed to destroy the top part of a tree , if there is no meaningful solution for Tamils then the tree will start to grow again . Singhalese people now have a responsibility to be generous and press the government to give Tamils a proper political solution, so that Sri Lanka will be a paradise again . The life is very short, live and let others live peacefully too .

Its high time we find a genuine solution then no body will bother about TGTE or any other for that matter.

LTTE re-grouping not against Sri Lanka. If it is in Venezulea definitly against US.

Give a proper solution for Tamils and Ensure that all the atrocities took place during the war are investigated and the relevant people are punished... then all the Transnational and other things will have its natural death....

do you know the meaning of Elam? first find that out..

Read the article again. The Cuban and Venezulan governments has informed us regarding the matter. That's why they are called friends.
Wednesday, 16 June 2010 05:23 AM
All we can say is "Oh God, save us from our friends - and enemies we can take care of".

Iran does alot for our country. Dude, they buy a major share of our tea exports. They fund development projects. it will be good if you can read up some financial news once in a while.

lets invade Venezuela

This is very dangerous for Sri Lanka. If they now find a country
willing to train some cadres once again we will have a problem .I don't think the govt should ignore this.

As soon as the war is over SL thought everything is o.k and jumped and danced however the real leader of the army knows how to tackle everything to get rid of terrorism and the remedies for them. Unfortunately before completing the task he is locked

The Venezulavian President is supposed to be a thick chum of the President, no? How did he allow the grass to grow under his feet? Or, is it "Et tu Chavez"?????
Wednesday, 16 June 2010 04:27 AM
The government has only quelled the LTTE in the country. So it is still not a victory against the LTTE YET - and we want to celebrate V-Day.
Wednesday, 16 June 2010 03:53 AM
I think as a friend of SL, Chavez has informed us early and has allowed us to be prepared for that. That's why a confidential report was received from them.

it seems to be bigger than the UN. First Malaysia and now South America!!
Wednesday, 16 June 2010 03:06 AM
Elam in Venezuela ????
Tuesday, 15 June 2010 09:44 PM
The way forward is to use our good offices & encourage Hugo to crack down on the LTTE remnants. I dont think we should ignore them, just because they're not operating within SL.
Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:57 PM
It is up to the government to set in motion, effective diplomatic endeavours to contain and counter these moves.
Tuesday, 15 June 2010 07:56 PM
Why should we worry? Let the 'transnational government' be anywhere. We cannot stop people from hallucinating. We have swept the menace from mother Lanka. That is all that matters!
Tuesday, 15 June 2010 03:51 PM
It is surprising that Venezuela allows this to happen. Is Chavez not a friend of Sri Lanka? He seems to bad mouth all the Western countries, so why is he doing this to Sri Lanka?
