I surely hope that you are only being sarcastic. Prof Peiris prosecuting the EU is a very unrealistic dream!

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:05 AM

Here the point is if any benifit is given we should get it. But we should not go begging for that. We can live without it. Before 2005 there wasn't GSP +.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:08 AM

Peiris, what about your legal action against EU. Now that you know that it wont work, you are on your knees, getting ready to beg. You should know the economic staus of SL and why you need the support of International Community. Don't talk big and try to take the poor civilians for a ride.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:09 AM

Let's see how GLP handles GSP+.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:12 AM

Prof Peiris as an expert on international law.
If the EU refuses the GSP, I am sure he will prosecute the Union forthwith and return with the facility
We don not have to worry as long as our prof is there to lead the team
    Dr V U Ratnayake

Sri Lankan government believes that China & India are their allies and West is their enemies. Why Mr.Peris cant visit to the above two countries establish some business link to export our cloths and etc. India & China need Sri Lanka to dump their junks(imports) and do not bother about the prosperity of our country.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:17 AM

It will be just another waste of our tax money. GLP is a lucky boy to make frequent visits to abroad begging for GSP+, while we continue to violate human rights here as usual.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:25 AM

Which sri lankan would like to see an increasing unemployment problem in sri lanka due to non availability of the GSP+?? It is pathetic the mockery the politicians are making time to time as if we are better off without it, and then eating up the same words by going behind! isn't it shame not having firm foreign policy?? This gives us negative attitude towards government!

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:33 AM

GLP - you got it right, esp when they keep saying that we can live without GSP++

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:48 AM

G.L. has been entrusted with clearing the mess created by Boggles. If not for him SL would have probably retained GSP+

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:01 AM

Yeah, he will sell the country for GSP+

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:50 AM

And I thought these patriotic sinhalese did not want GSP and were converting to tech savvy jobs like the indians instead of juki machine operators and three wheel drivers. But then the 51% who failed the O'Levels will have nothing to do other than becoming soldiers or washing pans for the arabs. Therefore GL has become humble and is now crawling to EU for GSP.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:51 AM

Consider the law & order in Srilanka. Release the General & innocent people from the cell.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 07:59 AM

It is heartening to hear that the issue is being pursued through negotiations with the EU. That is the right approach to adopt to resolve difficulties that arise in relation to trade matters between countries. Let us hope the EU will agree to allow SL to continue with the concession.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 08:38 AM

GLP for GSP. If you could only save this travel cost and use it for something useful for the public!

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 09:28 AM

GLP cannot handle GSP, only RW can do it fo rSL

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 09:41 AM

release Genaral Fonseka estabilish press freedom and respect rights of the people in the country then the EU will consider every thing you are expecting from them until such time answer from the EU is NIYETH

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 09:50 AM

Yeah true. The guy who played a pivotal role to get the GSP+ canceled, should be taken along. They only like RW.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 09:57 AM

Wish the Country will benefit out of his trip

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 11:29 PM

    Why not to Iran?

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:19 AM

Professor, how many times did you go on bended knees although you BOASTED THAT WE WILL NOT, REPEAT NOT, BEG FOR IT OR WILL NOT AGREE TO THEIR CONDITIONS. Now, you have DUTIFULLY complied with some of them and beg for the concessions. But, they ask for the 'pound of flesh'! Please see that you DO NOT COMPROMISE OUR SOVEREIGNTY!!

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 05:54 AM

The re-polished Begging Bowl has been taken out.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:02 AM

How many have these delegations have been sent ? Once even a priest went to Brussels. The govt cannot negotiate this concession, it needs to act. Its very simple....you cannot ball talk these people, they know whats going on.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:02 AM

why bother so much, many times when the government had said we can live without gsp?

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:06 AM

Isn't GL the man who threatened taking the EU to court when they were considering removing the GSP+ facility?

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:06 AM

GL's second trip? Where to next? Oslo? Tokyo? Paris? Washington D.C.? Brazil?

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:07 AM

    Pooh !!

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:07 AM

Oh! I thought brave Sri Lankans can live without Europeans

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:10 AM

he he he ha ha ha, what a double standard! Allow the conditions of the EU or UN to be implement, if you really want the GSP+ . The so called high powered team too failed, what magic GL holds??? this is hilarious man!!!!

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:13 AM

One thing you need to realize is that whatever the political differences there may be, the traders in both sides, i.e. in Sri Lanka and EU will not settle to incur reduction in profits. EU partners have strong links with Sri Lankan industries and they cannot move the demand volumes to other countries in short notice. So as much as we want GSP+, so do the importers of our products in EU countries. Hence, don't be so petty minded and think that this is a begging process. It's a win-win situation to many.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 05:54 AM

Minister should go with opposition leader.Otherwise no GSP +

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:19 AM

'malkanthi' seems very happy if SL not given GSP+, how pathetic people are . If the current position of GOSL is positive with regard to this matter, I believe people should support it regardless their political view ? Am I wrong ?

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:36 AM

Nothing wrong with you Sir, problem is that how GLP boasted against EU and now how he can beg to EU? In front of the Gallery they kill EU as great patriots and secretly they bow the knee in front of EU. That's is the dark side of this story. Who fools whom? who are the fools?

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:37 AM

Local Boy, What are you talking about, Haven't you seen people of high powered in the government talking about Europeans and Americans, So called patriot people in this country who voted for this government criticizing opposition,

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:47 AM

no wonder sri lankan air line has made 10 billion loss
Emirates wants Sri Lankan air to close down they are not botherd of the $75 Million investment or they wont spend $1.00 investing in that company

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:48 AM

Sri Lanka can live without the GSP. but Ministers can't live without Overseas Holidays.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:52 AM

Dear TMA not only Sri Lankans but also some of the European parliamentarian too cannot survive without Sri Lanka when it comes to their election. They should try to live without us first. Your opinion is blind.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:54 AM

Take Namal with you wherever you go.He has to learn .

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:58 AM

He is going to threaten them again. Sure they will agree for GSP+ otherwise we will sue them here and CID will find enough evidence.

    Thursday, 06 May 2010 06:58 AM

    I will give GSP++
