Covert intelligence operations, strong ties and good international relations with other countries helped Sri Lanka arrest the former chief LTTE arms procurer Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said.

He added that Kumaran Pathmanathan, who had a wide spread international web to conduct his terrorist activities, was captured because of the significant steps taken by the Foreign Ministry and the Defence Ministry who created a Defence network to do so.

KP who was arrested from a South East Asian country in August, last year by the Sri Lankan authorities is still being interrogated.

Pathmanathan who proclaimed himself as the leader of the LTTE after the death of Velupillai Prabhakaran was an international arms smuggler who procured substantial loads of weapons worth billions of dollars for the LTTE during the conflict. He was suspected of being involved in arms smuggling operations across Asia, Canada, US and Europe.

Some people are doubting whether KP was arrested or is it his ghost?

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 02:25 AM

You are the real hero Mr. Gota! No doubt about it.

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 02:34 AM

    This is why R B 's daughter celebrated her 21st B'day spending 200,000/- US $.
Srilanka ----- Who is Fooling Who ???????????????????????

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 03:26 AM

What took the Defense Secretary so long to make this comment. Something very fishy is about to happen to KP, just wait and see.!!

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 03:39 AM

Even government ministers don't know where and how KP is living. But these UNP AND DNA pundits know everything. If our intelligence is so week to leak everything, still KP is living safely abroad.

Arrested and given the best punishment under the law of the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka! Well done.

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 03:58 AM

Govt wanted to capture KP to acquire his assets - ships, bank accounts etc. What has happened to the confiscated assets is anybody's guess - judging by the heavy expenditure to advertise president at the pres.election and the presidential siblings & offspring at the general elections.

Real hero is MR he has won all conspiracies hatched by Sarath Fonseka with the connivance of UNP JVP and international forces backed by most private media for money. All economic indicatores bear the upward trend in the developme side of the Country. What's wrong in hand in hand with KP for the betterment of this country. A two third majority is definte for the govt. and we hope KP to be rehabilitated for the bettermen of the country and given an higher portfolio in the parliment.

It is alo because true patriots are in charge of the Defence Ministry. Without them, the war would never have been won

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 04:06 AM

Any impartial observer would agree that KP's arrest in a foreign land and bringing him to Sri Lanka under a veil of strict secrecy had all the hallmarks of a meticulously planned and superbly executed intelligent operation. Indeed, it pretty much looked like another 'James Bond episode'.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 12:18 PM

Who helped to get the LTTE wealth

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 04:16 AM

Mr. Gotabaya Rajapakse, first salute General Sarath Fonseka. Then people will respect you as a hero. You have put the real hero behind bars and giving comfortable life to terrorists. You are nothing before the war and now a billioner... how come?

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 04:20 AM

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 12:58 PM

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 04:28 AM

Is this to remind voters that MR finished the war ?

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 04:53 AM

We know that. Without support from outsiders you can even walk in road, we know that

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 05:03 AM

If So why Karuna is in parliment today? Who is he? Nobody knows what he did past? why cant take action aginst him...How our solidgers suffered when he was in LTTE.

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 05:19 AM

Well said Gota You are the man to lead SL after MR

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 05:26 AM

Where is all the money taken from KP, spent for elections

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 03:44 PM

KP is living in luxury ... while the real hero is in jail!

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 03:50 PM

Who said he had been 'captured'? He must have surrendered ...

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 03:52 PM

If KP has been arrested, then why has he been given a comfortable life under the shelter of the GOSL?

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 04:00 PM

We now know that all of you have been in "VERY CLOSE CONTACT" with KP.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 04:46 PM

Correction: 'support of a specific country.'

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 05:42 PM

Only 'your' people will believe this sir.

    Tuesday, 06 April 2010 07:37 PM

Not a joke, just an election stunt to show that we're not headed towards diplomatic isolation.

    Wednesday, 07 April 2010 01:54 AM

Hey, Gota , But still you couldn't get Sicillle Kotelawala who swindled Billions of Rupees of poor citizens of this country , pl do the needful even now to keep your reputation as a honorable and a fearless Gentlemen !!!!
