Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan today said  Minister Vinyagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna should apologize for the massacre of 600 policemen that took place in 1990 in the east.

Pillayan made this comment when answering a question posed by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC). The LLRC asked Pillayan if he saw the need to apologize to the families of the policemen since his group was involved in the attack.

“I joined the LTTE when I was 16 years of age. If there is a person who should apologize it is Karuna since he was the leader of our group at that time,” he said.

    Ajith Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:45 AM

A very serious alligation against the "Vice president of SLFP". Do the people still want to keep the king in power?

    azath Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:07 AM

These 600 are only Muslims and Sinhalese letting loose Tamil police men should be considered any action thereof.

Percy Mandawala Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:07 AM

This revelation is a war crime which needs investigation. Justice should be done for the family members of the 600 Policemen died.

Mr. Serious Thursday, 21 October 2010 06:33 AM

Misguided? Karuna / Pillayan played their cards with MR and it worked for them. they are opportunists, don't try to white wash them.

Hemal de Silva Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:17 AM

Nonsense. He should either be tied to or hung from 600 trees near the parliament.

Hemal de Silva Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:22 AM

Please stop calling this murderer "Karuna". It is a disgrace to Buddhism. The Ven. Buddhist priests, at least those in parliament should take this up.

Not only apolotize, he should be jailed for life, for taking so many lives. But by some strange quirk of fate, General Fonseka who rid the country of this menace, is now suffering in jail.

ali - Very true. Thank you.

    Balanceman Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:29 AM

It might be true that Karuna had involved in killing of 600 policemen under the direction of Prabakaran - the biggest enemy of SL Govt. However, subsequently Karuna became the biggest enemy of Praba.
So that biggest enemy's biggest enemy = Friend
    Therefore no issue !!!

This statement makes a mockery of the case against General Sarath Fonseka. The King and his cahoots stand naked.

Apologising for the massacre of the policemen is immaterial, the culrpits need to be identified and given punishment according to the crime. The same goes for the massacre of innocent tamils in 1983 and during the last stages of the war, who also need to be publicly identified and punished for crimes against humanity irrelevant to their affiliations and positions in Government.

for the massacre of 600 Policemen & Muslims in the mosque
Your apology can't heal the pain of the loved-ones.

    bodhinath Wednesday, 20 October 2010 03:22 PM

Thanks, at last for telling the truth. It is not only Karuna but the people who had given him all the perks should also apologise from the widows, parents and children of these policemen. We would also like to see the reaction of the IGP whether he still consider these men as MIA or KIA.

Roshan DW Wednesday, 20 October 2010 03:23 PM

Thats why they say there is no honour among thieves (and murderers!). How could a mere apology pay for the sins committed by his erstwhile leader and himself. Looks like this is the end of the so called Truth commission too and the King appears to be really exposed this time.

It is a well known secret that thesse two guys helped the SL Government and the Army to defeat the LTTE, wioth the inside information and the locations. By stating this I am in no way defending these former terrorists.

    kumar Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:11 PM

What an absolute mockery of decency, justice and wisdom!! Whatever SF maybe guilty of, he NEVER massacred people. But this bunch of corrupted and bloodied trio (Karuna, KP and Pilliyan) lives in luxury they never knew was possible!!! One day, sooner than later judgement WILL come to them and others also will be called to answer. Live for today. Eat, drink and be merry.

Bluff Bluff Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:26 AM

So, it is a confirmation of the massacre of 600 Policemen by a member of the Government. The culprit is in the Government itself. If so, is he then suitable to hold a ministerial portfolio?

    Che Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:49 PM

So Karuna, The "Viper" is a Hero to the Sri Lankan, while SF is a Traitor, wonderful Logic, I Think Sri Lankans have a got a major problem, on who won the War, 2 Petty minded Leaders, fighting like little kids over such a stupid Issue, It was a United and Combined effort the won the 30 year Politically manipulated war,. The only one who is benifiting frrom this is the Remaining Group of Tigers Lead by the Viper, by Now they know everything about the Political and Military structure of Sri Lanka, It is only a matter of Time.

    dsr-neckar Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:52 PM

Now, we know who is responsible for killing 600 police officers! The next question, who is responsible of killing young Buddhist monks in Arantalwa????????????????????
    KARUNA OR PLLIAN ???????????????????

    Samantha Wednesday, 20 October 2010 07:18 PM

    Wisdom Wednesday, 20 October 2010 07:55 PM

YES BOTH PILLLIAN AND KARUNA SHOULD APOLOGISE AS A SIGN OF GOODWILL.

PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. THAT IS DUE TO GREED HATRED AND DELUSION.

REMEMBER ANGULIMALA APOLOGISED AND BECAME AN ARAHATH IN THE SAME LIFE.

    Ruki Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:53 PM

Pls don't cultivate hatred, By gones are By gones

    Karuna is "Damanaya kal Angulimala"

Pls respect him, Soon there will be another " Soothra"

    O S - Doha Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:54 AM

Please...please....please do not compare Karuna or KP with SF..... formers did not serve in our army like latter one ..... army has and should have certain discipline codes....as an army officer SF has violated these rules and deserved for punishment....Karuna will not fall in this category as he was serving in LTTE army which had no any codes to be punished....since he accepted the one country & one government policy people pardoned him.....as he was misguided by the LTTE leadership he should have apolgize from the parents of late policemen ....but we should not forget that he was also one of the prime architects who paid valuable contribution to eradicate LTTE from this land

Carlyle de Silva Wednesday, 20 October 2010 09:41 PM

No, No Sir Its neither who should apologise but it should be the IGP of the time, Sec Defence also of the 1990's and the secretary to H.E. Premadasa who conveyed the order so shamelessly to surrender. The families of these war heros have yet to sight their graves. Carlyle de Silva

marcus fernando Thursday, 21 October 2010 09:31 AM

    ali Thursday, 21 October 2010 05:00 AM

The LTTE guys are lining in luxury. but SF!

How ever he is a minister undrer chintanaya and nothing will happen to him. Perhaps take him near a mango tree so that the tree could at least tie him to it for a short while and ask the SLFP to have an inquiry!!!
