Karu to contest for party leadership

In a special media statement issued a short while ago, UNP Co- Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya confirmed that he would accept the invitation extended by the Sajith group to contest for party leadership.

He also said he was most humbled by the many requests made to him to contest for the post of leader of the United National Party. “More than official positions, I love the United National Party most. I am contesting to both save it and unite it – a pledge I made to all those who have asked me,” the statement further noted.

    This is how the party leaders are selected in other countries. This is a good move for Sri Lanka as long as we keep the contest civilised and the loser falls in line and support the elected leader.
