The JVP today urged the government to reveal the proposed constitutionals reforms to the country immediately instead of resorting to undemocratic practices in this regard.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told reporters that there is much talk in the air that the government is going to introduce constitutional amendments very soon.
“It is also speculated that President Mahinda Rajapaksa is going to discuss these matters with Indian leaders during his visit to that country. However, the country should know about it before anyone else,” Mr. Silva said. (KB)

How can these be 'undemocratic practices'? the reforms will be submitted in parliament, and will be debated before a vote is taken. Thats the normal way of passing any bill. Once the cabinet approves the reform they go to the parliament for debate and vote. And if some of the articles needs a referendum, then there will be a peoples referendum. These so called JVP legislators dont understand a simple processes like this.

Any political party, including the JVP, has a right to know what is being proposed as constitutional amendments. Wonder what is the need to discuss those proposals with India before even being announced to the voters in Sri Lanka. Anyway, how can one say that the people have already voted for such amendments when nothing had been mentioned about those during the elections. The main purpose of these amendments is to give the incumbent president another term, as we all know.
