The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) has decided to ban with immediate effect the recruitment agency which sent L.T Ariyawathie to her Employers in Saudi Arabia.
The Chairman of the bureau, Kingsley Ranawaka said the bureau is to conduct investigations into the incident and will also look into complaints made against the recruitment agency.
Nails and pins had been inserted into Ariyawathie’s body by her Saudi employer while she worked as a maid at the house. She underwent a major three hour operation on Friday and is now recovering.

at least every 6 months , SL Representative in Middle East Countries should monitor the progress of the SL employees such as , whether they get the contracted pay , living condition and in turn SLFB should contact the local relatives and update them . Also SLFB should check the welfare of family members , specially children below 15 years.

Why not BAN ALL WOMEN from going for jobs in the Middle East? That would solve that problem for all time, no? This is a government that tries to solve all problems with BANS. So just ban the whole lot from going.

STUPID is not the word. Trying to get over the problem through the least resistive path. Moreover what ever recruitment is done goes through the bureau. We should black list the agent in Saudi for sending the Maids without checking the Employers Background.

I paid the SLBFE 6000 bucks when they refused to believe I was going to Dubai on a visit. They kept saying you are an engineer therefore you are going to look for a job although you hold a visit visa. And they said I can claim it back when I return.
When I returned the employee told me that the amount I paid had not been received... or cheated by previous employees and that I was not entitled to a reward.... I was fed up.

How would the agency be held responsible, unless they did not act on the request made by the maid or families on the difficulties she had to undergo. FEB should have a system in place for stealing soo much of money from them at the a/port..

Its not the agency, you must deport the SL embassy people in Saudi and also the top guy in Saudi. how come he gets a fat pay and is not worried about the people working in Saudi,

How could you blame it on the Recruitment agency.
The person or persons responsible for inflicting this should be dealt with and its totally stupid by the SLBFE including its chairman Mr.Ranawaka trying to shut this particular agency.Does'nt the GOSL and the SLBFE have the backbone to confront the Saudi Arabian Govt. and at least try to bring this barbaric acts committed by them to an end.

This is the problem with Sri Lanka, only when something devastating happens only then we take action...what about the other agencies?

Well, we have heard of the old story of a hunter who missed killing a deer, coming home and hitting the skin of a dead deer.
