Jeena madam remanded further

Colombo High Court today reserved order for October 31 in the case where Rosemary Jude alias Jeena Madam was charged with procuring local and foreign women for prostitution.

Colombo High Court Judge Kumudini Wickramasinghe further remanded Jeena madam till October 31.

She has been in remand for more than and had been refused bail on several occasions when the case was taken up for hearing.

During the trial President’s Counsel Thirantha Walaliyadda appearing with R.A.P. Ranawaka for the accused objected to the prosecution leading evidence of the police decoy IP Douglas who is said to have gone to the Kollupitiya apartment seeking a maid from Jeena madam on a cash payment.

Rosemary Jude alias Jeena was accused of having operated a brothel at the Liberty Plaza Super Market Complex. (Farook Thajudeen)

This is laughable. Exactly what has she done wrong? Who is the victim? If people want to pay money for sex, what is wrong with that. It's a damn site cheaper than marriage then divorce. This is going to be a laughing stock in a hundred years time when hopefully, attitudes will not include moralizing, religious bigotry. I know who I would rather see in jail, the bankers who robbed us all blind, lined their pockets and sat back while the whole economies collapsed. Let's not forget, its the money people, including the bankers who control governments and nations and who ultimately preside over this.

Its simple economics. She is meeting a demand. If there was no demand she would not supply. t's idiotic that prostitution is illegal at all. Why on earth shouldn't beautiful people and wealthy people give each other what they want?
It's consenting adults having sex with consenting adults. And it's illegal simply because money is involved? What a stupid law that is. There are so many forced into sexual slavery, and the authorities waste their resources on a case like this where there are no victims? We don't prosecute people for having affairs, so why this case? Society needs prostitution, particularly for those with a high sex drive or those having difficulty forming relationships - and society denies them this very basic right? Very stupid ignorant archaic laws outlawing prostitution without any regard at all for the needs of people to seek this essential service; and a waste of resources for law enforcement who should be fighting real crime and saving actual victims of crime.
