Jayasuriya, in a letter to Minister of Sports Navin Dissanayake, cited the impending end of his tenure as the head of the selection committee as the reason for his resignation.
I am always available if Sri Lanka Cricket needs me to serve the country in the future," he said in his letter of resignation.
Under his tenure Sri Lanka enjoyed success, by winning the World T20 2014, Asia Cup and a Test series in England, also reaching the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. But Jayasuriya came under fire for his selection in the quarter-final of the recently concluded Cricket World Cup, where Sri Lanka lost in a lopsided contest against South Africa.
With the appointment of a new interim committee earlier this week to run Sri Lanka Cricket till the next elections, Jayasuriya’s future was put in doubt, with new Interim Committee Chairman Sidath Wettimuny hinting that the tenure of the selectors would not be extended.
His tenure was originally due to end on March 31, but with the postponement of the Sri Lanka Cricket elections, was extended by a further month.
Too late to send your regisnation , You should have done this immediately after we lost to South Africa in the Quarter final. Thank god you realised now. You ruined your good cricketers.

Good Riddance..He always had a Selfish agenda and his importance was more important than that of the team or its players.Shallow and immature thinker...Hope he does not ever get involved with our SL cricket ever again.

I hope that with this letter, you term has come to an end. Sadly, your bye in most formats and positions in SLC have been an extended one.I Understand you have given many cricketing memories that will be remembered for many years. Sadly, what will also be remembered will be screw up you made during the world cup. Yes, many were injured but this was because we played that series in India prior to the CWC to fulfill the needs of the board and not the players nor SLC. Please kind Sir, Go in peace and dont return unless you do it with the right heart and with valves changed.Good bye, and stay safe (-ly away from the game!)
