The juvenile court has ordered a mobile phone specialist working at a private company to be present at the court on July 13 to seek his expertise to prevent access to porn sites through mobile phones.

The police women and child’s bureau had informed the court regarding the private company and the expertise it has to restrict access to porn on mobile phones.

The specialist is to disclose details to the court about the technology and how to prevent access to porn sites through mobile phones, sources at the police women and child’s bureau told Daily Mirror online.

as you may or may not know, the women's affairs dept is run by a man who qualifies himself as an expert because he has a mother. What more can be said about these repressive moves recently! Note allusion to Sigmund Freud.

very good . this is a good move. this will help to prevent kids getting in to porn sites.

wonder who this "specialist" from a private company belongs too...

    NiluPul Thursday, 08 July 2010 04:57 AM

More you try to hide, more they try to discover.

Always it has to be a balanced approach, not an extreme approach that will make societie a better place to live. Not a single expert in this world WILL be able to stop access to prone/sex sites from the Internet, through computers or mobile and any other device, but YOU CAN educate your children about it and make sure they don’t get trapped in the ‘web’.

Stupid Sri Lankan government, Police and court system ARE NOT designed to help people but make their lives miserable!

Good thing to do. At the same time its advisable to ban school children going to see the parliament during its sittings.

Why give hi-tech mobile phones to under-age children at all, who is responsible?

    GMJ Thursday, 08 July 2010 05:39 AM

You people were trying to do this over three months I think - as I saw the same kind of news over that period.

    wicky Thursday, 08 July 2010 05:39 AM

I dont think this is a big issue. Children all over the world do it. But we have not created a world full of sex maniacs. The problem is with the adults who cannot adjust to modern day changes. Porn is no more considered as taboo or a prohibitted subject. Just leave it alone without giving it unnecessary publicity and guide your children to understand the realities of life. That is all what is required.

Bannig this or banning that would not work in this day and age. Youngsters are computer savvy and they would get around any blocks that are enforced. Young children in developed countries have cell phones that they could only dial their parents, school or the Police, they only have three buttons. Why don't parents in S/L too get that type of phone? In any case why buy expensive phones where children could access the Internet.

    Faqi Thursday, 08 July 2010 05:52 AM

wicky - Well said an intelligent comment. In the first instant why give young children phones that could access the Internet. They could give them a simple cell phone that could ONLY contact the Parents, the school & the Police, similar to the ones young children have in all the Scandinavian countries.

    Wasantha Thursday, 08 July 2010 06:27 AM

I do not think that anyone can develop a software or any system to identify whether it is a porn or not. Even if we stopped the mobile access for porn sites, we cannot stop internet access to other country porn sites. High expensive mobiles being used nowadays cannot be called as mobile phones. Lot of other facilities like a Camera, Radio, TV and other entertainments contained. Need to prohibit such phones immediately. It would help to save our foreign exchange as well.

    Nan Thursday, 08 July 2010 11:18 AM

How about this; parents give your children mobile phones that cannot access the internet if you think your children might get addicted to these kind of things.. proper education is the key.. not this kind of extremist moves.
