An Iranian had been arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while trying to fly to Italy using a fake passport, police said.

The CID is further investigating into the incident. “The suspect who had entered the airport was sitting in the seat near the entrance. When he saw us he ran away from his seat and was caught by the security officers and the police”, a senior police officer said.

The suspect earlier refused to show the bags when the police wanted to search it as his behaviour had raised suspicion. (SD)
