Intoxicated Russian tourist attempts to assault WPCs

A Russian woman who violated traffic laws while attempting to assault Women Police Constables as she rode a motorcycle was taken into custody by the Police on Saturday evening (04) in Negombo.

Police said the 24-year old Russian tourist had ignored the orders of the police officers on traffic duty and had behaved in unruly manner under the influence of alcohol.  She had even attempted to assault the WPCs who arrested her with great difficulty.

She has been referred to a medical officer in the Negombo hospital, who has confirmed that she was in fact inebriated. She had not been possession of her passport at the time of arrest. (Hubert Fernando)
