Int’l community duped by pro LTTE groups: Military

The international community seems to be unaware that it was being deceived by a well thought out strategy of LTTE rump groups, the Military said today.

Military spokesman Ruwan Wanigasooriya said the latest video by London based Channel-4 television station showed that the propaganda machinery of LTTE Rump groups had a dominating influence at the UNHRC.

“This has been the case ever since the end of the Humanitarian Operations in Sri Lanka,” Brigadier Wanigasooriya said.

He said some of the recently released photos said to be of Prabhakaran'sson have been in the public domain for anyone to see.

“If at all these photographsshould have been put out at once. The fact is that those with vested interests do not want to do so or hand them over to law enforcement agencies with the relevant evidence (that they claim as being beyond any reasonable doubt) for investigations. This shows that their objective is to keep the tempo going before each UNHRC session,” Brigadier Wanigasooriya said.

He said this was part of a major campaign against Sri Lanka by all interest groups.

“It is very clear that publishing photographs of alleged violations in Sri Lanka at the most opportune time -- well timed and spaced, is a good marketing strategy and the LTTE Rump do not want to lose that leverage,” he said.

Its been 3 over years and the technical rebuttals by the army of Channel-4 and other images & videos have been few and far between as well as being clumsy. If you want to convince people, you have to do a thorough technical rebuttal.

Brigadier I don't think anyone believes any of the evidence is 'beyond reasonable doubt' but that it is credible evidence which should be intensively investigated by non partisan institutions, which given your comments you are clearly not. ... the so called 'international community' is made up of people in Sri Lankan, and elsewhere, who believe in democracy, justice and accountability. It is not easy to see that either the sri Lankan government or its military institutions share those values. I totally agree with the above comments by the Army. There is a coterie of hard core ex LTTE supporters in most of the western countries who thrive on misinformation to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka. They have the funds, the organization, the contacts in western countries. They do nothing else except bad mouth Sri Lanka at every opportunity. The western media & human rights organizations are bering taken for a good ride by these Ex LTTE supporters.

As a "SRI LANKAN" I hope that the UNHCR keeps their hands off us. During the war, when all those bombs exploded I cant remember any intervention by any organization, for 30 years. Now that the war is over, as the weapons cant be sold, they need to find some damn fault. Sure enough most of us doesnt like the current govt, that doesnt mean that you need to be a traitor as a "SRI LANKAN"

It is not duped mate. It is rather hired. What can't they do with their billions of dollars in their coffers coming from 80 million Tamil all over the world monthly. Even they collect dollar a month from one individual - just extrapolate the enermous funds they are collecting. They can buy all the NGO's INGO's, UN, UNHCR or what not. You name it - it is all in their payrole.
