Indian Sailor rescued in H'thota

An Indian sailor who had fallen from a merchant vessel on Sunday morning was rescued by a group of Sri Lankan fishermen off the coast of Little Bases sea in Hambanthota on Sunday night after being drifting in the seas for nearly ten hours.

The Indian national had fallen over board the Singapore flagged vessel "Prabhu Daya" in the Trincomalee sea area which was en route to Chennai from Goa. He was rescued by a fishing trawler on late Sunday night.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that the Indian High Commission was informed about the incident.

“The merchant vessel had contacted the Indian high commission saying that a sailor had fallen over board,” he said.

“The High commission then contacted the navy and we were alerted about the incident. We sent a search and rescue team but we found that the sailor was rescued off the coast of Hambanthota by a group of fishermen” Commander Warnakulasuriya said.

He was brought to the Naval Hospital in Trincomalee and subsequently, transferred to the Trincomalee Government Hospital for further treatment. (Supun Dias)

What do u mean he is not Tamil? Even if he is tamil, he would have got the same treatment. They are also humans, and the navy or the fishermen would have rescued him and treated him. Stop spreading racist thoughts, it is because of people like you that our nation can't go forward.

he was my best friend on my 1st voyage n signed off 2months b4.. very good boy..frightened easily..obidient n only son of his parent.He knows Malayalam n Tamil a good student.. joined 1st time as 2/O after only 2days f signing off.. He needed rest n refreshment after 6months..but did wrong by joining soon..his fault n d compny recruiters..compny fleet management deals in drastic condition.. m feeling very sorry 4 him.. just little asleep resulted in so drastic accident.. every officers in watch should be alert durung his 4hrs watch though a long voyage or coastal route like this.. as his carrier in dis field goes in darkness..I prayed every1 please forgive him n try 2 zero his punishment..he z very helpfull boy..pls pls
