Indian HC talks with Pillayan

Indian High Commissioner in Colombo Ashok K.Kantha has taken up the issue on the vandalism of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Batticaloa with Eastern province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, the Hindu online reported.

“India has taken up the issue of desecration and requested that the Gandhi statue be rebuilt. Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Ashok K. Kantha spoke to Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary K. Amunugama. conveying India's concern and requested urgent investigations into the incident. The High Commission has also taken up the issue with the Chief Minister of the Eastern province and the Inspector General of Police,” it stated.

It also said that, initial inquiries indicated it to be an isolated incident, and not the work of an organised group. This is the second time in a year that a statue has been desecrated.

The other three statues are of Tamil scholar Swami Vipulananda, poet Periyathampi Pillai and Scouts Movement founder Baden Powell.

Don't say Mahathma Gandhi is not important to us, his teachings are all important not only to us but to the entire world.

Lord Buddha is also from India.Sri lanka has nothing on its own,We all are from India and brought culture ,heritage evrything from India.Even we got our independece by the freedom struggle of Lord mahathma Gandhi.Respect people like mahathma Gandhi, Nobody is like him in Sri lanka,he didn't accept the post of priminister offered by his people.

Mr. kanthan go and see in India that Indian thugs vandalized statues that important to Sri Lankans, last year. Remember, Sri lankan pilgrimage were attacked. Do not interfere with Sri lankan affairs this much. Indian create more problems in Sri Lanka than they help here. Statues here belongs to us. This third class act is definitely done by LTTE proxy that Indians create in Tamilnadu. Remember they killed your own prime minister Rajiv.But, you have not learnt lesson yet ( resoulution against SL, talk with Tamil tiger proxies etc..).India is the traitor in Asia.

Gandhi is important for India and not important person to Sri Lanka. If India wishes they can put up Gandhi's statues everywhere in India
Ashok Kantha understands that Sri Lanka is not part of India.
Statues are no important, practical principle are important. Are the Gandhi family adhering to the Mahathma Gandhi principles? If not, why they worry on a block of cement?

What do we want our Nation to be? People should be a little more mindful of what they are saying. Gandhiji stood for peace, ahimsa, non-violence. If Gandhiji is not important for Sri Lanka, then how can the Buddha be important for Sri Lanka?And why are we mixing up Gandhiji with present day politics. Gandhiji should be respected.

To people who see only a block of cement in a statue it will remain just a block of cement but to others it can provide inspiration & thoughts of the values & principles by which the person lived. Gandhi was not just an Indian but an inspiration to the whole world in his own way, just as Jesus & Siddhartha Gautama were. To see otherwise is narrow viewpoint.
