Indian engineers for railway work

More than 200 engineers, technicians and supervisors from India would be employed on the three northern railway projects, officials said today.

The projects are implemented under financial assistance from the government of India. Already 20 Indians had been mobilized in Medawachchiya along with construction equipment to carry out the work on the railway lines from Medawachchiya to Madhu, and from there to Mannar.

IRCON International Limited, a company of the Ministry of Railways in India, has been given the contract to construct the railway lines destroyed due to the war. Company’s General Manager of S.L. Gupta told Daily Mirror that the work was in full swing, and the formal work would begin by March 15. Mr. Gupta said that an equal number of similar officials would be recruited for the project from Sri Lanka. Besides, he said that only Sri Lankans would be employed as labourers. (Kelum Bandara)

Employ engineers from moratuwa or peradeniya universities they will just sit in a A/C room and do a clerks job. That what happening.

A good ploy. The Galle/Matara project which is almost complete is infested with Indian technicians, etc. It's just a matter of re-locating them to the North Nothing new about this.

Why the authorities can not insist on recruting more officials from Sri-Lanka. We have enough expertise in this field and their involvement will be an added advantage for the country.

When the Indian Govt. gives a grant it will be subject to conditions.

The need of the hour is to get the infrastructure done, so that the people can travel to and from North, quicker and cheaper.

well, guys I am a Sri Lankan but India has world`s one of the finest railway networks. They have the best expertise knowledge that could benefit Sri Lanka rather than the western know how.
Don't revive India all the time we are dependent on them for our PARIPPU.

The Indian Government could get cheap labourers and provide jobs for our engineers,and technician. Our Sri lankans will do a better job with cheap labour. Minister of Public and Highways, dont you think we too should give employment to our youths who have qualified and seeking employment.
