The Indian government’s Home Minister P. Chidambaram met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi this afternoon and briefed him on the recent visit to India by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Indian media reported.

Chidambaram said the Indian government has agreed to provide the Sri Lankan government Rs.1,000 crore (over $200 million) to build 50,000 houses to resettle the internally displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Queried about the state welcome given to Sri Lankan Minister Douglas Devananda, declared a proclaimed offender under the Indian law, Chidambaram told reporters the union government has no official information about the cases pending against Devananda and he came to know about the cases only from the media.

Meanwhile he also termed the attempt by unknown elements to derail a passenger train in Tamil Nadu yesterday as an extremist act and hoped police would catch the culprits.

Chidambaram said: 'Along with the police, the intelligence agencies are also working to nab the culprits.'

Passengers of the Rockfort Express and the Salem Express had a narrow escape when a blast, blamed on critics of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, destroyed three feet of rail track in Villupuram district early Saturday.

Both Karunanidhi and Chithamparam are the puppets of Sonia. Both always work against the Tamils, but they always claim they are Tamils.

Give the correct version to karunanidhi without adding or changing what Mahinda said. How many times he was briefed during the past. Seems to be, all are collectively misleading the Tamils.

The briefing that K'nidhi got so soon after MR's visit is an indication of the extent to which the Indian Government is concerned about T'Nadu. Will the extremists here who are against a political solution realise that we cannot delay for long a political solution acceptable to India?

    Monday, 14 June 2010 03:20 AM

What can he do other than say yes

    Monday, 14 June 2010 03:48 AM

This action shows Union Government's eagerness to let Tamil Nadu administration know that the current major issues concerning the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamils are receiving the activie consideration of the Centre. It makes political sense.

GOSL will not give us any rights. We have no way other than looking towards India and West.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 02:41 PM

Tamil Nadu will gain much by co-operating with Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lankan tamils are Sri Lankans whatever their ethnicity is and we love them as our own people. Tamil Nadu better keep away from confrontational politics.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 02:51 PM

It is high time that this clown Karunanidhi realized his limitations and understood the veiled threat in Chidambaran's reference to the train incident.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 03:23 PM

    This is Srilanka`s first Enemy.

    Sunday, 13 June 2010 07:06 PM
