The Vavuniya police have initiated inquiries into the disappearance of the manager of a leasing company in the area who is alleged to have misappropriated funds amounting to Rs.14 million sent by Sri Lankan expatriates to their relatives at the Chettikulam refugee camp.
According to the police the money was sent by 60 expatriate workers in Canada, France, England and Italy to their relatives who are staying in the refugee camps.
The police say they initiated inquiries following an anonymous call in this regard and had not received any complaint over the incident. (Daily Mirror online)
