Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga, who earlier asked for pork to be served in the Parliament Canteen, said that he still want pork to be served in the Canteen.

“Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa initially agreed to do it. Later, he shelved the decision due to objection by MP A.H.M. Azwer as a Muslim member. I still want pork to be served. I hope the Speaker will implement the decision,” MP Amaratunga said.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has reportedly assigned UNP MP Ms. Rosy Senanayake to inspect the parliamentary canteen of MPs and to ensure the quality of food being served.

During a recent meeting of the House Committee, the Speaker asked woman MPs to act in this regard. Particularly, he mentioned the name of Ms. Senanayake.

Mr.Amaratunga who was also present at that meeting confirmed this to Daily Mirror. Also, he said the Speaker, upon request by Ms. Senanayake, agreed to serve bees honey and cereals in the canteen.

“These are healthy food items. It is better to eat them instead of flour products,” the Speaker told the meeting according to Mr. Amaratunga. (KB)

Like most normal workers why don't you bring a buth packet from home with pork and whatever else you want instead of shamelessly scrounging off the public for subsidized luxury meals?

    Nodrog Monday, 10 December 2012 03:31 AM

This outdated practice of almost free fancy meals must be stopped. Those who are entitled and enjoy these meals are richer than the people who have to pay to subsidize this.

    ramakumar Monday, 10 December 2012 03:32 AM

Mnsmar, is it the reason you don't eat pork?

    Ralahamy Monday, 10 December 2012 03:52 AM

he is trying to eat sumptuous diet out of ordinary people's pocket. Both parties are agreed to it.Rosi wants honey and John wants pork

    kumisura Monday, 10 December 2012 04:21 AM

I am amazed that people aren't more outraged by the utter indulgence and lack of self awareness of the so-called "People's representative". Breakfasts like these are only for the very rich. It is time our politicians took a good look at themselves.

    moca Monday, 10 December 2012 04:21 AM

SL is a buddhist country. Buddah never had pork. Killing animal not allowed in buddhism. How pork can be permitted?.
If you know, who is having a pig farm in SL, you will understand the reason for John's request.

Ponzi CabbaralaHamy Monday, 10 December 2012 04:32 AM

Wow! Rosy wants bees honey & cereals. Kalu Suddhi!

The Liberal Monday, 10 December 2012 04:35 AM

    Several things should be noted.
    1) yes, he should have the freedom of choice to eat whatever he wants. If Azwer does not like it he should just shove it.
    2) we ALL deserve the freedom of choice, and we want more choice than Paan and Parrippu, which are already too expensive because people like John Amaratunga get beef and chicken and what not for next to nothing thanks to the taxpayer
    3) sexist of the speaker, telling he female MPs to go back to the kitchen

    faz Monday, 10 December 2012 04:36 AM

His brother need a contract from parliament ...

    Apsara Monday, 10 December 2012 04:41 AM

After enjoying all these luxury foods what will they do to the poor masses. That is big question?

    Thomas Monday, 10 December 2012 04:52 AM

Pork is a favorite dish in Kandana area, from where Mr.John originates, no wonder he relishes it.

    Truth Monday, 10 December 2012 05:44 AM

So this is what we voted for. To decide what the idiots in parliment eats.
