The Supreme Court has determined that the 19th Amendment to the Constitutions is consistent with the Constitution but certain sections require a referendum, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa announced in Parliamnet a short while ago.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that they were ready to remove sections require for a referendum.
IT IS A GOOD MOVE AT LEAST THE SUPRE COURT RULING WITH UNDERSTANDIND , UNLIKE THE PREVIOUS HORA REGIME WHICH CONTROLLED SUPREME COUR CJ AS WELL , NOW THE UN EDUCATED THUGS IN PARLIAMENT , WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE 19A COULD LEAVE THE PARLIAMENT AND GIVE OTHERS THE SEAT

With so many road blocks, this minority Government has achieved something that MR and Company could not do and did not want to do, for years. Go for it now and have it passed with whatever the changes required by the SC.

Please ensure that in case an MP crosses over or votes against party whip, he loses the seat automatically and cannot go to courts because people vote on the principle that he abides by party discipline. The crossover carnival must end.

Cannot! If the thugs leave the Parliament there will NO 2/3 majority to pass this bill, Otherwise Maithri will need to dissolve the Parliament if the 19th Amendment fails to pass through 2/3 majority.Ranil only has the option to act within this parliament MPs if the bill cannot move then, Dissolve the parliament and start with new MPs.

What can the opposition do now? Go for a no confidence motion signed by 60 and have more mud on their faces?
Gamaya Thursday, 09 April 2015 02:09 PM
Quite clearly, the opposition is running out of cards to play. RW seems a step ahead of the combined opposition...
Gilmart Thursday, 09 April 2015 02:14 PM
However much ignorant and disrespectful we are, we need to silently admire the masterful maneuvering of this difficult process by RW.

Tamil is very good economist and strategists but not a dirty politician! Let allow him to run the government for another 5 years and see how the country will prosper! He has capacity to bring the country to level of Singapore or Malaysia
de silva Thursday, 09 April 2015 02:54 PM
So the people who prepared this 19th amendment did not know the constitution in this country at all.
