Prime Minister D M Jayaratne speaking in Kandy said that people who are honest, talented and hard working will be appointed to positions following the upcoming local government elections.

He said that getting the highest number of preference votes would not be the only criteria in selecting the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha after the election.

“People who are honest and committed to serve the people in the area would be appointed to positions,” he said. (JAL Jayasinghe)

Other thing is people in that area only select their leader to rule next four years, not you.This statement clearly tells the how the democracy of this country and government is not listening to people's voice. To UNP big wings - now government has throw the ball air.u just need to catch it. What you all have to do is make the public statement that who get the highest votes will be appointed as mayor or chairman of that area. just that. you will see how the people will react and choose their leader.
