Prime Minister D M Jayaratne speaking in Kandy said that people who are honest, talented and hard working will be appointed to positions following the upcoming local government elections.

He said that getting the highest number of preference votes would not be the only criteria in selecting the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha after the election.

“People who are honest and committed to serve the people in the area would be appointed to positions,” he said. (JAL Jayasinghe)

Yes. We have people talented and hard working for their own betterment, not for the country.

    Citizen Thursday, 20 January 2011 06:36 AM

Perhaps PM should clearly define 'honesty', 'hard working' and 'talented' - the definitions may be new and very different to that found in dictionaries.

    Citizen Thursday, 20 January 2011 07:23 AM

    Talented or Tainted

    sha Thursday, 20 January 2011 07:53 AM

prime minister, are u nuts???? what are you talking in public???You are the people making party nominations so it means you are make in to the list that so called currupted and uncommited people.this is a Joke??? Other thing is people in that area only select their leader to rule next four years, not you. This statement clearly tells the how the democracy of this country and government is not listening to people's voice. To UNP big wings - now government has throw the ball air.u just need to catch it. What you all have to do is make the public statement that who get the highest votes will be appointed as mayor or chairman of that area. just that. you will see how the people will react and choose their leader.
