A woman who had admitted herself to the maternity ward of the Kalubowila Hospital after appearing as a pregnant woman was later discovered to have stuffed her clothes to appear 8-9 months pregnant. Two suspects including a woman appearing as her mother were handed over to the police by hospital authorities after the hoax came to light.

The suspects are believed to be involved in stealing newborn babies. The hoax had come to light after doctors tried to monitor the pulse of the baby. (Bimal Jayasignhe)

Whaaaaaatttttt? How does a person admit herself to a maternity ward? Is that the normal procedure?I thought a doctor should examine her first in order to determine if she needs to be in a hospital .
