The suspect who fled to Singapore after running over a pregnant woman with his Montero SUV in Pettah, has moved to the United States, Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said.

The Police had issued a red notice through Interpol for the arrest of the suspect who was a security director of a leading private hospital in Colombo.
The suspect had been identified as Nilan Piyarathne, a resident of Kiribathgoda.

He fled to Singapore after running over the five-month pregnant woman at Gunesinghepura in Pettah on April 27.

The suspect had driven the vehicle while returning from a night club and might have been under the influence of liquor, the Police said.
The accident was recorded on CCTV cameras. (Chaturanga Pradeep)

USA the heaven for murderers, rapists, foreign terror boys, drug lords & international mafia kingdom. All are welcome as long as they bring bag full of dollars for US beggars. Lets see how UNHCR will order their God fathers USA to extradite this drunken cold blooded murderer to SL or not to face justice.

Please go to USA and see for yourself how their system work. That's why in USA they have better living standards than here in LK. If USA is convinced the correct way they will not provide shelter for people like them. Just don't blame others for our own misery..

Great Police detective work. Well done. However there is no logic behind prosecuting the vehicle owner unless he/she has broken the law. Specially if he/she had no influence in the driver's behavior. This will just be a waste of resources and the innocent owner may be punished.

    Prometheus Thursday, 08 May 2014 04:12 PM

To be blocked at the BIA the police has to ID the culprit extremely fast. Since this fellow is a "Director of Security" at a major hospital, he likely have had the necessary tricks & contacts to slip out of the country. Regarding the US visa, well If he is a green-card or even dual citizenship holder then all he needs is the ticket.

govi rala. You are talking poppy cock. What weed are you on?The rule of law prevails in the USA.

    Roshan Thursday, 08 May 2014 10:53 AM

He must be already having Multi visa, so that he has to buy only the ticket.

    Chief Thursday, 08 May 2014 10:58 AM

Very bad! Singapore could not help us, why let the culprit escape to USA?

The suspect is not a UPFA supporter. He must be against UPFA. UPFA members are above the law.
