The UNP is to submit amendments to the proposed local government electoral reforms bill though it is agreeable to the government’s proposal to introduce a mixed system.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a news conference a short while ago that his party would seek to increase the youth and women representation to 40 percent instead of the government proposal to limit it to 25 percent. The party is also seeking to amend the government proposal to elect one third of the candidates under the PR system (YP)

    First amend the UNP constitution to save the rest from crossing over. There is no point of talking about youth and women representative if the party can not stop these cross-overs!

    Government is amending existing amd introducing new systems. UNP in turn, fighting, presenting new proposals and amendments. Poor Mother Lanka!
