UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told journalists a short while ago that UNP MP Kabir Hashim will make announcement regarding party reforms this week. He said Mr. Hashim is currently having successful discussions with the pro reformist groups and the party leadership at the moment. (YP)

Does that mean Ranil is going to stay?

UNP could learn a "success story" from their own history. In brief it is the story of JR who spearheaded his team to defeat the powerful regime of Mrs. B who had a two third majority. He made R. Premadasa as the deputy and entrusted him to attract the rural masses. Shared his vision and inspired the entire team though he was later labeled as a autocratic leader. Accordingly ,RW too need to identify his strengths & weaknesses and select right people to the areas where they are capable. In this regard Sajith should be appointed as the deputy Leader is a must and need to give him the authority and freedom to work. (Sajith too should not be overestimated himself until the right time comes). Then only UNP can convince and attract the suffering masses. Without such a paradigm shift, defeat of MR would be a dream.

By the time the UNP reforms are decided there will be no democracy in Sri Lanka. Thank you very much sir, Mr. Ranil.

Instead of crying that 'democracy is dead let them reorganize the party and do something meaningful.
Gayan Samarasekara Tuesday, 28 September 2010 07:29 AM
Please settle the conflicts soon as possible. Country demands your active involvement in reinstating democracy. This is a serious situation, and definitely the opposition can't get rid of the blame, if someday the democracy is totally buried.

It better include voting rights for Provincial Council, Pradesheeya Saba and Municipal Members. This will solve 99% of the issues in the party. C'mon Ranil trust in democracy.
